K love arives on KTXX

K love is now on KTXX another flip.

Did you hear a legal ID? The reason I ask is because it could be another translator. I wouldn't expect a translator that close to the primary station, but you can never tell in this day and age.

I'll half to listen for it but they are broadcasting in stereo now, where ever it is if it is KTXX?

On K-Loves web site it says 103.1 San marcos, but it doesnt have call letters on any of the stations.

KTXX is licensed to Karnes City. Usually, K-Love stations ID between :45 and :55. K-Love, if I remember correctly, airs a single stopset each hour, and the legal ID airs right out of the stopset with something to the effect of, "Positive and encouraging K-Love, now, here's more positive and encouraging music on KLOV Winchester [or KZLV Lytle/San Antonio or whichever station you're listening to]" with "More Music K-Love" sung immediately after the ID. If you hear Karnes City in the legal ID, you know you're listening to KTXX, or possibly the former KTXX. If you hear "KLOV Winchester" in the legal ID, you'll know it's a translator. Most, if not all, K-Love translators rebroadcast KLOV Winchester. I always found the Albuquerque K-Love to be quite bizarre, and this situation is likely to be equally bizarre if this is a translator, as they have a full-power station in KQLV 105.5 and a translator at 90.5, but the translator rebroadcasts KLOV Winchester, Oregon rather than KQLV, which can be picked up quite easily at the transmitter site!

By the way, something that lends creedence KTXX having changed formats is that BMP looks to be in the process of taking it off of its website (http://www.bmpradio.com). While it still lists it as a San Antonio station, it only features "La Luz" in Austin on the sidebars. When it features a station like Jammin', Digital, or La Ley, it tells which other markets it's offered in. It only acknowledges "La Luz" in Austin and has no mention of San Antonio.

Ok, scratch the title there, I did some research I found the station its K276EL in San marcos. Kind of a waste of signal there though. KMLR has a LOT better coverage than a translator. Isnt that a little close to KTXX? They are putting these translators closer and closer to comercial stations ??? ???

You are correct! Good research! K276EL just filed for its license to cover about 2 months ago. It, like all translators in the commercial band, has to rebroadcast signals it picks up over the air. This one rebroadcasts KZLV 91.3.

As for it being close to KTXX, yes, it's close to KTXX, but it's outside of its protected signal contour. Translator spacing is also determined a little differently than the spacing tables used for full-power stations. Translators don't have a set spacing requirement in terms of kilometers or miles; they're determined based on signal and interference contours. They also have to sign off or find a new frequency if they cause undue interference to full-power stations, and they have to accept interference from full-power stations if they have any.

Wonderful. Yet another K-Love or Calvary Chapel Jerkwater Flats translator. Can't tell ya how thrilled I am to hear about that. Sometimes I wonder if their goal is to put at least 852 translators in every top-whatever market they can get their hands on. Do they give a rat's ass that they're clogging up practically every empty (usable) FM frequency in each city they decide to descend upon? Doubt it. Say goodbye to 'em...they're an endangered species. Hopefully somebody at the toothless FCC will put some sort of brakes on this runaway train. Doubt that too. Each of these translators is surely only designed to reach a few thousand more wallets.

This doesn't look good for the Part 15er out there. In Sacramento, I've been chased off of two different frequencies now by K-Love and EMF (the Calvary Chapel Wherever crowd). The FCC website shows ALL empty FM frequencies in the greater Metro area with either a grant (therefore, a signal or soon-to-be one) or an application on file from these frequency gluttons. At the risk of sounding like a crybaby, I was actually serving my neighborhood well in ways the full-power, million-watt FMs can't because of corporate puppetry from headquarters. They (those corporations who own the licenses) don't give a damn about the public, except when their meal tickets (read: licenses) might be in jeopardy. Those licenses are just profit centers. My little station, which offered music, public affairs programming, etc. (and DIDN'T sell airtime) to an appreciative audience...gone...just like that.

Pardon the cynical sarcastic rant, but I really needed to vent. :(

Thanks :) Thanks for the infomation also, I cant get KTXX any more with K276EL. I dont understand the point in having that format on there when KMLR comes in just as clear if not better. ??? ???

From what I've seen of the programming schedule, you're not missing much by not being able to get KTXX. If you really like that programming, you can get it on KELG 1440 if you can pick up that station. I agree that the translator doesn't make too much sense on paper. Maybe there are some problems with 106.3's signal inside the primary signal contour that aren't apparent from your location, or maybe they're just wasting a good spot on the dial. Keep in mind K-Love's translator at 90.5 in Albuquerque never made much sense to me after they got KQLV moved in from Grants. I'm still scratching my head over that one.

Also, to Rick, I understand your frustration. While Part 15's aren't offered any legal protection, I can't imagine very many people in San Marcos going, "Yippee!", over another option for hearing K-Love.

Thanks, I use to listen to KTXX some when it was air america when it was spanish not to much. I was just interested in DX'n to that station, funny radio-locator does not even have it listed yet, I found it over at FCC.Gov as far as I know 106.3 travels well all over San marcos. But who knows....
