Birmingham K-Love Makes Birmingham Purchase

I think Air1 will move to 96.1 since it is a slightly better signal than 102.1. As for 102.1, Klove Inc. has been leasing many of it's HD substations and extra translators (in markets where they own more than they need) to Gateway Creative Broadcasting, who owns and operates Christian Hip Hop brand "Boost Radio." Their headquarters are in St Louis where they own 95.5 KXBS, but they are also heard in 16 other markets on Klove HD subchannels and Klove owned translators, and that list continues to grow. KLove does have an agreement to lease their HD3s to AFR in some markets, but I believe that agreement established which markets those were to be on years ago when the agreement was made, and usually if AFR is also on a translator in those markets, it is an AFR owned translator, not a Klove owned one. Also, Klove doesn't typically put their other web based only formats on translators, and with Hip Hop being a big format in Birmingham, leasing another HD subchannel and extra translator to "Boost Radio," in the market doesn't seem out of the question at all. That's going to be my guess. We'll see what happens.

Didn't check on BMR yesterday, but as of this morning their produced top of the hour ID already includes W297BF, WPYA-HD2 and WBPT-HD3.
I just heard the station ID over 106.9 HD3. The 106.9 portion of the ID was given as "WBPT HD3, Birmingham" (there is no mention of Homewood which is WBPT's actual COL). I forget about half the time WBPT was relicensed to Homewood, despite it being what now, 20 yrs? Someone at BMR or Summit Media "needs to lick the cat over" (as my grandmother used to say) on that ID. ;)

That is not true that they have no other formats other than K-Love and Air1. They have several other radio formats they put on translators across the country. K-Love 90's, K-Love 2000's, K-Love Era's, and K-Love Pop. They will probably put one of those on.

Air1 also has a Spanish version of Air1 they have started to put on translators Música de Adoración.

K-Love also owns a Spanish Christian music network Radio Nueva Vida and has put Christian hip-hop on other translators from Boost Radio. So K-Love has a lot of options.

Oh, that's interesting. I did a quick look of both the EMF corporate and K-Love websites and never saw any mention of those other formats. Guess I wasn't looking in the right places.

Does anyone know when the sale will be official and the switch from Hits 97.3 to K-Love?
Approval from the FCC normally takes around 90 days give or take plus then waiting for closing. The deal was filed on July 10. I would guess November 1 as a likely switchover date.

The license transfer to K-Love has been approved as of today (8/25). That was quick! I've seen license transfers approved in sixty calendar days before, but that wasn't even that long.

Maybe K-Love debuts on 97.3 on Labor Day, September 1?

Yes, WPYA is still airing the CHR format as of today.
