K-Love move in

Re: K-Love move in/KPLU's Heritage Translator in Jeopardy

This is outrageous. I saw this come up on my screen a week ago and didn't think much of it. But now I'm deep in this application, and it stinks. Basically, a Class A Satallator station near Raymond/Long Beach has filed a minor change to move tower locations in a north-easterly direction (ie. towards the Seattle-Tacoma Urbanized Area). Their 60 dbu signal will get out into likely 1/3 of the market, maybe more. Furthermore, and most importantly, this action will blow up the heritage 120 watt ERPKPLU 88.1 Translator, covering the back side of their contour in West Seattle, Des Moines, Federal Way, and the West side of Vashon. Here's the channel study. Remember, Translators are Class D, secondary seervices, so they are not considered in an allocation study:http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getattachment_exh.cgi?exhibit_id=407805

Another BIG reason why the FCC has got to put an end to these so-called "minor applications" that designate a complete departure of public service and commitment of the same in the now alleged "City of License" !!It is a major change to Ocean Park, Wa, The Dalles, Oregon, or any other smaller city that has grown to rely on its local station, suddenly finding the station depart for the already very well served metros of Seattle or Portland.I know what some of you are going to say, "that station will still be serving 'xx town', but let's get real: THEIR focus is NOW going to be on the SEATTLE Metro, not the COL they are supposedly “serving”. In an age of terrorists and the Department of Homeland Security, we need a way to alert folks in the local communities in their homes, cars or on the jobsite. If there aren't any local stations anymore, just how is the message going to get out in Ocean Park and elsewhere?

The guy who probably couldn't agree more is Andy Skotdal @ KRKO. They've been trying to be sure their coverage will reach Snohomish county; but they run into all this grief with environmental impacts, challenges, etc. Sounds like another two year pushback at this stage. I'm definitely "left" of moderate ... but even I get frustrated sometimes with all the EIS challenges to everything we do!!!

Well as part of a LMA agreement I worked for K-Love and I personally will say that Richard Jenkins does have the money to do that with a lot of FM signals these days.
