K-Love on 107.9

I'm in the area of Newark, NJ. For the past several months there is a strong station on this frequency identifying themselves as K-Love. Is this a pirate? Not sure why they would be on this frequency when they already have 95.5.

Thanks for the info. I used to get WEBE 108 pretty strong here and then as of May/June this year this translator has wiped them out.

I hear them too, but have an HD radio and even with the translator on, the HD sidebands from WEBE come in strong and locks in the HD signal. Interesting to hear the analog signal from W300EI fade into the HD audio from WEBE.

Yes! I do believe this is a pirate radio and also ILLEGAL interference with WEBE.

Yeah I mean, we already have 95.5 as NYC K-Love's main frequency. Why would they do this? I don't believe everyone uses 107.9 to listen to a duplicate station.

It's not a pirate. It's W300EI an FM translator. They have an agreement with EMF to re-transmit K-Love. They need something to keep the station on the air until they find a buyer for it.

WEBE 108 doesn't care about their reception being interfered in suburban New Jersey. They care about Fairfield/New Haven counties in Connecticut.

Redundancy is Dumb. It's only 99 Watts.
Probably cost not even $100 a month to operate.
(Plus Rent? For Equipment on top of the WTC).

In that case, W300EI 107.9 would be better off rebroadcasting WEBE (as a sync'd repeater signal) for NYC, just like the 107.9's for KBPI in Colorado. Another good option discussed is for repeating WOLD-LP in NJ.

If its EMF, at least they could've used 107.9 for Air1, as a complement to their rimshot signal on 96.7. But seriously, 95.5 already being on ESB, makes K-Love on a nearby 107.9 LP translator Irrelevant & disappointing.

According to Radio-Locator, the transmitter of W300EI is on top of a building that is located on the intersection of Hanover and Beaver Streets, which is about 1/2 mile away from the World Trade Center.

I don't see where Radio-Locator says anything of the kind. In fact, they still show PLJ located at 2 Penn Plaza, 17th floor, space which Cumulus vacated after the sale to EMF consummated and they left the market. BTW, notice how their "local" signal barely covers Brooklyn, and the "distant" contour just makes it to the City Line. It covers a lot of people, but not a lot of square miles.

The "transmitting antenna" does appear to be at Hanover Square in Lower Manhattan -
(Radio-Locator, RabbitEars + FCC.gov concur). No further info on studio location, if applicable.

As mentioned in Post #8 by RadioGuy1864, this is a similar situation to Emmis/USRN on 98.7;
this is easy, inexpensive programming to keep the signal warm until it's sold.
No great programming strategy is involved.

And lotsa money a month for the transmitter site rental.

Remember, at shared sites the tenants pay a part of the A/C and heating costs, maintenance of backup power, lighting and security costs for the transmitter room. It's not just the transmitter itself but all the ancillary gear (not sure if this is a shared site... otherwise they pay it all)

Exactly. Like most stations in rated markets, electricity is a "petty cash" item compared to other costs.

Doubt they have the money for using that location permanently And the LP itself can't run ads.
