K Love on WLDB now?

That's not what K-Love does.

Since Monday 105.3 has been running a loop redirecting listeners completely to 93.3 and promoting that Air 1 is coming to 105.3 (and interestingly not promoting 102.1)
Interesting. I was in the area Monday and as of 8:00 am they were still airing K-Love on 105.3 when I heard the ID. Must have gone to the redirect loop shortly after that. 🙂

So they found another deal for 102.1 after the previous deal fell through I wonder. Then again they promoted on the 92.3 translator when air 1 moved to the fish signal in Atlanta that radio Nueva vida was coming and it actually flipped to k love 90s. Normally they do what the feed says they will do. I would not expect air 1 on both 105.3 and 102.1fm.

105.3 has been KLove forever though. It will take a while to convert everyone over. Maybe they will sell or lease to another christian broadcaster.

I had a chance to listen for a few minutes last night. The processing is much better now (quieter, not aggressive), but Voltair is turned up way too high, to the point where even the average listener is going to notice it.

I checked 105.3 WLVE and they are running a loop to reset your presets to 93.3 FM and Air 1 is coming to 105.3 FM - 102.1 WLUM already carries Air 1, would there be a benefit to having Air 1 on 102.1 FM & 105.3 FM - they cover almost the same coverage

They cover from different transmitter locations. WLVE may have less multipath versus WLUM in their main coverage area.
Multi path? Let me guess there must be high rise buildings creating a similar effect that plagued NYC in the early 2000s. In NYC high rise buildings created multi path interference that caused a station like WNBC to have channel 55 to resolve multi path.

That doesn't make much sense. WLUM covers almost all of 105.3's coverage area well. And 105.3 starts to accumulate more static near downtown.

I'm guessing the K-Love folks want to push listeners to the new, more powerful 93.3, and perhaps use 105.3 for the time being to promote Air 1 to the signal stalwarts (then direct them to 102.1). There are obviously no long-term plans for 105.3 - they still need to get the purchase of the MRA signals approved by the FCC before they think of doing anything else.

Multipath or reception issues can be created by Buildings or terrain. All I'm saying is that 105.3 coverage may be have better results closer to where their transmitter is located for listeners in that area. Its penetration is from a different location/angle versus WLUM and may cover better in the area of coverage for 105.3.

I'm not from the area but if any one is maybe they can chime in on if WLUM coverage has issues that WLVE does not have in some areas.

While licensed to Mukwonago, WLVE's antenna is on the western edge of New Berlin. On paper, 93.3 and 102.1 have close to the same coverage, but WLUM is in some areas a little weaker to the west. So perhaps they figured it would be better to pair 105.3 with 102.1 because 93.3 didn't need it. Just a guess.

Trust me, there aren't any tall buildings near that tower. And very mild hills. And 102.1 comes in perfectly there, even around the IHR and Audacy towers five miles from there.

The 1.65kw signal of 105.3 sits entirely within 102.1's 8kw coverage.

That exactly what I was saying

WLVE has a slight advantage in south west suburbs like Muskego, Mukwonago, and parts of Waukesha. There is also a slight coverage extension to Walworth County towns like Lake Geneva, Delavan, Whitewater. All of this would only really impact indoor reception. Outdoor reception differences would be negligble.

I assume most people who listen to Air 1 are like other radio users who almost exclusively listen to the FM signal in their cars. Maybe there's a large segment of CCM listeners who listen mostly on their clock radios?

K Love has several stations in the Rockford area with overlapping city-grade coverage. Maybe they just want to hog spectrum?

I agree with Irish, the long term plan is yet to be seen. We can check back in November 2026.

I live in Whitewater and 105.3 FM and 102.1 FM are quite weak. It would be interesting to see if K-Love or Air 1 would ever begin broadcasting in Janesville area because I believe this is the only market in Wisconsin that they don't cover.

Jon Ellis with Northpine notes in his weekly rundown that WLDB is going KLove exclusive and Air1 will be carried by both 102.1 and 105.3 (with on-air announcements of such), so they must be figuring WCKL and WLDB (along with the Sheboygan translator and the Green Bay/Sturgeon Bay duo) provide enough coverage of the main network up the lakeshore and they want to maximize Air1 coverage.

As I said before, they'll eventually do something with it, either with other programming or by selling a signal (likely 105.3). The Air 1 simulcast probably won't be long-term. First, they have to get the MRA purchase completed. Then, the rest.

Northpine hasn't really said anything that hasn't already been discussed here.
