K-love rents 106.9 from merlin

Merlin will be renting WWIQ 106.9 to K-LOVE to carry religious rock music 24 hrs. a day starting at midnight tonight. Merlin could never get the millions of dollars that they paid Family for to sell the station to K-LOVE. So, to sum this up, Merlin will not be selling this station to K-LOVE, they will be renting this station to K-LOVE instead.

I have no disrespect and encourage religious formats whether it be Christian, Jewish, Catholic, but I really think there is a saturation of religious programming in this region. Between the Sports Chatter, Spanish and Religion on the dial, there is no room for Standards, Classic Oldies and Classic Country, WMGK HD-2 is the only T-radio station worth tuning into. Do these religious companies really have the big bucks to shell out for all the stations they buy, when WHAT could not keep afloat a small flea powered and cheap operation to run station with Standards, yet Spanish is doing well with 1340 now. Look at the magnificant tower, antenna and coverage area of 106.9, you mean to tell me nobody wants to put a normal music format on it, but in this new day and age what is a normal music format....

Where is your proof that EMF is leasing 106.9 & not in the process of buying it ?

And most of the time when a new company is buying a station they lease (or LMA) the station while the approval process for the sale goes through.

This really is different from all the other religious stations that are basically talk stations except 950 Family Radio that plays some traditional hymns. K-Love is a 24/7 Contemporary Christian music station with dj's who could be on any AC format station. The only stations in the maerkt playing this are small rimshots. If you follow the ratings for markets nationally Contemp. Christian music is doing very well nationally among young adult listeners. The last attempt at full market for this was WZZD 990 but being on FM now & that format more popular than ever it will be interesting to see how it does. The people who listen to 560, 800, 950, 1040 1420-1570, etc. are a whole different audience. 106.9 will be drawing listeners who otherwise would listen online or to secular AC stations.

Merlin sold the station to EMF -- not lease. The purchase price was near 20 mil I believe.

They're not on the dial because all radio stations are owned by giant conglomerates that create cookie-cutter music stations. Oldies, even Polka could work for a station as long as you get the right sales people and target the right advertisers. "Demos" are stereotypes, there are plenty of young adults that love 60s and 70s music.
