K love to expand in Tuscaloosa

It looks like EMF is looking to improve its Tuscaloosa area coverage by buying 102.9 WTID from Townsquare and based on the past it will probably become Christian AC K Love. The 102.9 rim shots the market from the south west and current 99.1 rimshots from the south. Plus 89.7 KRLE covers areas north of Tuscaloosa. I see that 102.9 is a C2 so its stronger than 99.1 so its possible that 99.1 could go Worship as Air 1. I guess we will wait and see

I kind of have to chuckle at the turn of events here, since it was EMF that first displaced sports talk "Tide" from 99.1 several years ago. Now they're going to do it again, pushing the sports to a small translator/HD combo. I would think that Tide-sports would do huge numbers in Tuscaloosa for obvious reasons, but apparently Townsquare sees it differently.

I think they sold off 102.9 FM to buy 105.1 FM and remain compliant with the ownership rules.

P.S. The Tide fans will be disappointed, once they exit stage left.

B.T.W. Once the sale is finalized and the format changes, I see 102.9 FM becoming WKLT (We're K-Love Tuscaloosa) or WTLK (We're Tusacloosa's K-Love), if they're not in use already.

Sports stations have a loyal following, but the numbers are poor. Very narrow demographic. The other stations in the cluster probably produce better ratings and revenue.
