K-Love's music

The other day, a friend pointed out to me that he noticed an improvement in the lyrical content of the music being played on K-Love. The last time I spent any significant time listening to them, was when I was in Wisconsin on business. (October 2010) Now, I use a home-made 5-element antenna to pick up their New York signal at home. My friend is right! I am hearing quite a few songs with VERY Christ-centered lyrics! :D

Even though it's a short playlist, so I am hearing the same 50 or so songs over and over, most of them are so good, I don't mind. ;)

Thoughts? :)

My wife is a K-love listener and I'm subjected to the noise while traveling in her car. I say noise because it sounds exactly like "modern" metal to me. A complete absence of any musical talent. Just noise. Repetitive noise. Admittedly, I don't listen to the lyrics, such as they are, so won't comment on that. It is like listening to the worst garage bands of all time.

My wife is devoted to K-Love. She also feels that it's better now. By the way, she and my daughters are the musicians in the family, so I'll go on their musical knowledge.

Yes KLove's playlist is tight but that's normal for radio now days isn't it? I don't see why folks are so on KLove over it.. It's no different than the local CHR station or Country station.. They are playing what is well tested.

KLove is very open with their faith.. They are not afraid to mention Jesus.. they for sure are not in the catagory of the CCM that "plays it safe" with the watered down lyrics to target the typical Mainstream AC "becky"

While KLove is very repeative... I am a fan of their programming and style and find myself listening to it on my iPhone in the car via my Aux input since the local CCM here is Com ran and does 8-10+ minutes spots an hour.

Good gravy! You can't possibly be talking about K-Love, then, because they do NOT play that stuff! They are Adult Contemporary Christian. Could it be the "Air1" station she listens to? That is a youth-oriented, edgier rock format. Totally NOT my cup of tea at all... but it's "for the kids". :D

THAT is what my wife, myself, and my Mom LOVE about them!! :D But it's not JUST the MUSIC that is very Christ-centered, so are the comments from their announcers! :)

My Mom listens every time she's out in the car down in Bridgeport.

Since I live in West Haven, I had to go to extraordinary lengths to get the signal! I built a special "nano translator" here at home, so we can enjoy K-Love on any radio. :) With the exception of tropo wiping them out, and occasional airplane flutter, 95~99% of the time, the signal is excellent.

I haven't listened to K-Love in a couple of years because the songs I heard were all so generic about who they were about.
Maybe I'll give them a listen again.
If I hear any of that "modern metal" though I'm probably on Air1, which is .8 away on the FM around here. ;)

She also listens to Air1 but it's "positive, encouraging K-love" I was talking about. To be honest both sound about the same to me.

Im a fan of Air1 myself.. However, I admit I spend more time listening to my own internet radio station (even in the car via my aux in).. I am glad there is more edgy music out there for us younger folks... I do enjoy KLove though. (though honestly I dont listen to them much in morning or afternoon drive because I find they talk a lot)

The last time there was a topic similar to this I asked for examples and no one responded. So I'll try again. I'm just curious to know what specific songs they used to play (or still do for that matter) that you would not consider "Christ-Centered" or "strong" lyrically?

I can't think of any examples. They all just kind of blended together after a while anyway.
I didn't try to remember them when I used to listen, so I can't now. I can't remember any that were "strong" either though, so it's probably just me and my way of 'membering.
It was just a general feeling I got after hearing a song that was generic-love-oriented, then hearing another one, then another one to the point I noticed the trend.
[just explaining why I couldn't respond to the prior request too ;) ]

Ditto. Exactly! :) Three different 1-week business trips out to Wisconsin in the fall of 2010, and I listened to them quite a bit each time, until I just had to shut it off, because the music wasn't ministering to me at all, and was repeated so much.

It's been MONTHS since I heard them, before the new station went on the air in NY. Now that I have been listening a LOT, I can't help but notice the much better lyrical content of the music! Granted, they still repeat quite a bit, but the BETTER music means I shut it off very seldom! (Only a handful of songs, now.)

Who can hear lyrics? It's just garbage.

A related comment: yesterday where I went to church (where the music was entirely traditional, but that's not always the case) two teenage girls got up in front of the congregation, one pretending to be a visitor and the other pretending to be the person who welcomes visitors. The person who did the welcoming took pride in the fact the "Church of Blank" tries not to offend anyone. The visitor was confused by all the comments that suggested, since this church didn't even mention Jesus or the cross, they didn't seem to believe in anything.

The pastor said she served communion at one of the area megachurches and couldn't find a cross to put on the communion table. She said there wasn't a cross in the entire church. And if not for the fact that someone went out to a store at the last minute, they would have served orange juice and bagels.

When K-Love's on-air people aren't talking, talking, talking,...they play music.

They don't talk THAT much! ;)

Both, my wife and I have now reached the point where the repetition of the very small playlist on K-Love, is wearing thin. I've started playing my 1600+ music library, instead. We'll switch back & forth from K-Love to the large library, now, when we get tired of the repetition. As much as I enjoy their announcers (I really do!) the music really is getting to be MUCH too repetitious to keep listening. That's a shame! :(
