K-Mozart comes back in LA, trying to target Bay Area Listeners

Waste of time putting Classical on a marginal AM stick!

Of any format, Classical would need at least the fidelity of an FM signal, to even have a remote shot!

Didn't Saul Levine own 1510? I think it ran as K-Mozart for a few years too, right?

Yes, but I don't think it even lasted "a few years" - maybe just one or two. Then Levine did his typical format flip-thing and put in automated Oldies. Nobody listened to that, either.

1260 K-Mozart's website will have content targeting SF listeners displaced by KDFC going non-comm, anyone think it'll catch on?

Maybe with 3 or 4 people. I can't imagine that a K-Mozart stream be more popular in the Bay Area than the KDFC stream. KDFC is a popular "brand" around here with many loyal listeners. I doubt many people here even remember K-Mozart.

Wait K-MZT will get run over by KUSC and the HD-2 station in LA called KCSN fm 88.5. How is it possible for KMZT people to worry about KDFC listeners. Also in the Bay Area some people like me who live in Solano county can get KXPR 88.9fm from Sacramento for Classical music and KDFC 89.9 FM its people in San Jose that still waiting for the 3rd station for KDFC or San Francisco who is still wondering if KDFC goes away and gets reverted to KUSF that have to wait if the sale is clear.

Saul Levine should LMA KTRB and put K-MZT on 860. From what I hear, he's already got the LA version of K-MZT (AM 1260 licensed to Beverly Hills) on the Web and on the HD-2 of (Go Country) KKGO (FM). He's using the AM to promote the alternate means of delivering the signal. The programming is a mix of classical and standards. (Cross posted from another thread on this board.)

What that makes KTRB more of a target of getting run over by KDFC. KMZT should be on an FM station in San Jose as in prevent KDFC from going into San Jose. also if Classical is on 860 its going to get run over by the Glenn Beck audience, and the Rush audience on AM. Also No classical fan in Solano County would listen to 860 AM for this format. People in My area would just go to 88.9 fm KXPR in Sacramento for Classical if they don't like whats on 89.9 KDFC.

We all know that Classical cannot sell on the AM dial, but that didn't prevent Saul Levine to operate KMZT on 1510 for awhile. Even with all of the signal and transmitter problems with KTRB, Isn't the signal of 860 much better than 1510?

At least 1510 comes in in SF and Oakland

Now, yes. But that was not the case back then. Mapleton's whole strategy of downgrading KGA was based on upgrading 1510 so that it could increase its night power and cover SF halfway decently at night. From what I hear, the 1510 upgrade has been built out and is on the air, and the nighttime signal in SF has improved. But 1510 is now carrying brokered Asian programming 24/7.

Also, are you suggesting that 860 can't be heard in SF? I've heard that the day signal is great and the night signal, even with 20 kW, is usable--when it's on the air, which is not often these days.

When 1st on the air, KTRB had decent night coverage, they were running at 50Kw. My understanding is that the last months, they've been running at 10Kw, not 20, at night to save money on fueling those thirsty generators.
