K-Mozart to go all-country?

LAist.com is reporting a rumor that Saul Levine is about to flip KMZT to country:

We are hearing murmurings that LA classical FM station K-Mozart is about to go the way of its other Mt. Wilson Broadcasting sister-stations by trading in their bowties for bolos and go country.

When KZLA stopped bootscootin to country music and switched over to the soulful jamz of Movin' 93.9 in August of '06, it left a twanging void on LA's FM dial.

Mt. Wilson's KKGO (1260 AM) tried to pick up the slack on the AM dial but why wouldn't you want to hear the song of the year in mono, the Dixie Chicks should be in stereo and that's possibly what 105.1 FM will become if K-Mozart decides to shift gears.

Anyone hearing these murmurs?

Typical. It might happen in San Francisco, Is Los Angeles next? Knowing the way Saul Levine operates, If he does switch 105.1 to Country (Which I doubt because Saul is so passionate about Classical), I see him switching 1260 (and 540) to Classical, which would be a shame since Classical does not sound that good on the AM dial.

The HD-2 simulcast of KKGO sounds pretty good, other than when it is over amplified. I'm happy with that.

You ever wonder why we never read any big radio news on this board first? Isn't anyone here plugged in enough to provide scoops? There's a lot of speculation here, but when it comes to big news like the KZLA flip or this change, we always find out first elsewhere. C'mon people, start using this board!

Re: K-Mozart to goes all-country at 6am Monday?

A big FM stick goes country in LA and this board does not care. I am totally shocked to see this happen and it will be interesting if they can do better making money then KZLA did.

They will probably make less money, but Saul will run it chaply and make a better profit than he did with classical, which was declining terribly in recent years.
