K-PIG CUTBACKS

Funny, while I saw an article about the KIDD format change on the
Monterey Herald website, I went to the Santa Cruz Sentinel website
to see what they may have had on KSCO/KOMY (nothing 'bout that),
but I did find this...which has not been spoken of on the (Central) California
thread(s):

MapleSyrupton's not making money with this format, either:
"The reason for the cutbacks, O.M. (Frank) Caprista said, is simple:
'Advertising dollars are not coming in.' With the dwindling economy,
'even some of our longtime advertisers are cutting back.'"

"It's the beginning of the end" for KPIG's live DJs, as a loyal listener was
quoted as saying in that same article...

Article dated March 26, FYI...

Many, if not most commercial radio stations go to automation after 7pm. KPIG is waiting until 8pm. There simply isn't much audience to speak of after 7pm. People are either watching TV, on the Web, or they're out going to dinner, movies, theater, dance clubs, etc.

So, I wouldn't be so quick to call the end of KPIG as we know it; they're simply doing what other stations did years ago: go to automation in the evening.
