K-Rock finally listenable

A week into it I must say the format works.  Most of the NuMetal garbage is gone, and they seem to be playing some forgotten singles which work well.  Perhaps this enthusiasm is because their playlist is still fresh to me, and, after time, the repetition will make the station unlistenable again.

Overall though, they seems to have executed the WRXP formula perfectly.  They play tried and true rock with a few currents by the heavy hitters of modern rock, each song flowing well into the next.  Listening on their stream, its even sometime possible to hear the hiss indicative of spinning vinyl.

I've only had to change the station in disgust once, when they played Def Leppard.  Booker talks too much.  And the pay-for-play is becoming annoying, but such is the nature of that business, but for the most part it seems to mesh well with the rest of the songs so I can slog through the occasional Shinedown or new Ac/Dc song.

Other than those minor critiques, I must say CBS really nailed it.  Its a great format, and as long as they keep adding music, I hope it lasts.

Are you joking? This is as boring of a playlist as any heritage rock station in the country. So much of the playlist is shared with Q that's just obnoxious.

coldplay to def leppard? i like both bands but those two should never be on the same station.

No knocks on Q, its another goto, and if I could have it on the last.fm software AOL/CBS uses, then it'd be a preset too (along with K-Rock2 and KROQ2).  I never really used to hear Q at any business other than the rockaway beach surf shop, and its not exactly the season to be able to tell if they have switched to K-Rock.

As for Def Leppard and Coldplay on the same station...I politely disagree, though my personal dislike of Def Leppard may be well documented here, chicks dig them.  Same thing with Coldplay.

As far as heritage rock, well I am of the age where I never really heard the format.  I remember, as a child in Boston, my caregiver would play WBCN in the car in the late 80's, and I'd occasionally hear the Who, Pink Floyd, the Smithereens, and REM. But then I started kindergarden and never listened to rock radio again until '94 when I got Dookie as a gift at x-mas.  By then, all the "heritage" stations were Alternative. So this is a new format to me, as well as pretty much ever other 25 year old male in the Northeast.

Sounds awesome.  I like how they mix the old and new, but not the same old tired classic rock songs I've heard again and again and again for the last 15 years.  And maybe Booker isn't that bad either.

And, in closing, now that I am going out after wasting the day listening to the radio when I should have been applying for internships at financial firms (Grad School Rocks), Smithereens into Incubus and the Who into Soundgarden both belong on the same station and segue great. CBS really got it right.

*And, on an aside, the classic rock sounds so good in headphones streaming over the internet, there is some crazy stereophonic stuff and track layering I have never heard before. Those iPod touches stream the internet, and if the lastfm are compatable, look out. NJ Transit, Metro North, and LIRR all get cellie reception.

Yeah right, CBS is clueless and sucks! You listen to Octane and tell me that sound garden should follow the who(pu). They seem to think that soundgarden should be followed by Godsmack, Korn, or better yet five finger death punch. Now that mesh's well. Not the crap that Ny'ers have to endure on that 92.3 frequency. Unlistenable now and forever.
