K-Rock is returning to NYC, could 96rock return to Alanta?

Krock is back in NYC after the failed FreeFm experient. Could/will Clear Channel switch back to 96rock? The brand is 32 yrs old. I think most people know the old 96rock is done but that Project 9-6-1 name is dumb. Most people that listen can't tell you what the name of the station is. Bring back 96rock and keep playing what Project is playing. Maybe change it when they finally add a morning show.

I have few joys in my life: watching the Cubs attempt to pay baseball, making fun of Rodney Ho and this:

How will this affect Q100?

How are the two related? Project is pulling in ratings and at this point I see no point for a change. If you listen to a radio station solely based on what it is called then you are the fool.

The launch of Active Rock in New York is another example that people want to rock on the radio. K-rock will be big in The City and PROJECT will continue to grow here in Atlanta. Look what they've done with 3 jocks, a ton of street presence and NO MORNING show.

So who's going a/c first, Power 99 or Z93? :D

I

K-Rock came back because Free FM sucked a big one. This isn't like WKLS' transition from classic rock to active rock. 92.3 in New York went from rock to talk.

Fruit get a clue. There was no transition from classic to active. They changed personel and the name of station and the music. The transition took all of one second when they flipped switch to Project.

96-crock sucked one almost as large as free from-ratings-fm did in nyc.

But really, who's going ac in atl?

And from the looks of it, no one cared that the personality was changed. I know more people now who listen to Project in the mornings. Free FM's talk lineup was mostly lame and unfunny. I'm surprised they let Ron and Fez go after an excellent first book (#2 M18-49, #9 A25-54). I actually like those guys.

I hope 96rock does come back. I only hope that it's the the southern rock version.

I guess I meant the comparison in the KRock and 96rock brand in lieu of their demise.
I don't think anyone would be pissed if they changed the Project name back to 96rock but I know a lot of people that would love the switch.

If this is true about Ron and Fez I would guess they may have the inside track on replacing Imus? Those are numbers that would appeal to the Fan.

And 92.3 actually went back to the exact same rock format they had in '05 when Stern left.

The thing with 96.1 in Atlanta is that it is still 96 & it is still rock. I wish it was still called 96rock, but I really don't see that coming back unless maybe the station fails under the "Project" name. However if that happens I think it may be more likely for CC to just completely go away from rock at 96.1. It's a very different station that it was 7 months ago, but it's still rock and I even hear people still refer to it as "96rock" sometimes. The way Project 9-6-1 sounds is not too much different from how 96rock sounded before mid-2004 when they went all Classic Rock- just with less Classic Rock and with Slipknot, Korn, System of a Down, ect. It's too bad CC had to be so reactive to Z93's flip. How Project 9-6-1 sounds is how 96rock really should sound in 2007 if it had continued to evolve with the times. New rock, quite a bit of 90s rock, and a little focus on where it all started- Jimi, Zeppelin, Floyd, AC/DC, ect... I wish they would play just a little more "Classic Rock" and not so much Slipknot and 30 Seconds to Mars.

I do wish another Classic Rock station would come to Atlanta, so many great songs unplayed and The River just doesn't cut it. I don't know if that will happen though with The River's strength and so many Classic Rock stations starting to shift to Classic Hits. 96rock was not meant to be an ALL Classic Rock station- it should always remain a part of 96.1/WKLS as long as rock is played, but not the entire focus. 96rock was still too rock for all the folks now listening to The River and Classic Rock made it too soft for those who wanted to rock. Unfortunately the name was also dirtied by The Regular Guys firing and The Braves. It is nice to hear 96.1 being about rock again and not baseball. I think the name 96rock really lost its identity and unfortunately it will need to be a while before it is used again in Atlanta.

It is cool that NYC got their rock station back!

I don't think they'd take that. They do a mid-day show on XM Radio, and Ron himself seems incapable of waking up before 10 AM.

I agree with you to a point. The older classic rock you mention stands the test of time. Slipknot, 30 Seconds to Mars, Nickelback... these are bands that people will laugh about in 20 years. FM radio 25 years ago would have been plugging much more creative bands of today if radio was the same as back then. Think Little Steven's radio show. The rock music 96 plays today is a bit, fat joke.

New rock sucks. Slipknot, Korn, Mastadon, whatever...it's the hair metal of this decade only not as melodic or cheesy. It's just crap. If I want someone to scream at me I'll just listen to Michael Savage.
