Is it 100% certain that Nard, Verlane and Rachael are gone? I'm still hearing Verlane doing alot of the commercials. Maybe when the djs' return Nard, Verlane and Rachael will be back.

Anyone have any ideas as to what to name the station. I hope they don't plan on calling it radio92.3.

When jocks are canned the spots they cut are not. They were paid at the time to cut those spots. Now, if an endorsement that's another issue.

I would have flipped the station the Wed before Thanksgiving. You would have had 4 days of people checking out the station (cume spike), talking and blogging about it. Still... the station will benefit for 3rd phase of ARB.

On the Ohio Media Watch article Nard talks about the dj's being sidelined. He makes no mention of them being let go. Maybe they're gonna do what they did when they dropped the Xtreme format and became K-Rock. Go jockless for a month or so and then return with the dj's.

Maybe they can bring back Lynn Tolliver who is looking for work and he can once again program the music and turn 92.3 FM back to "Solid Gold Soul" like the old WJMO was back then. Or perhaps do that format on 1490 AM, and have a live DJ staff especially if Lynn could go back on the air doing mornings...

I wish Nard the best. I've known him for years and he's a good guy. I hope he lands on his feet soon.

As for Rachael, seriously, so what? The only talent she displayed was for dressing in a short skirt and a low-cut blouse and posing for pictures in Scene Magazine. What does that have to do with radio? Nothing.

god help corporate radio jocks.

WBOS totally ripped off WRFF in Philly, as did 92.3. This is almost a carbon copy of WRFF in Philly. Same exact liners and very similar music.

they should make the station 92 rock again and bring back the smoker and the big daddy.

"As is Nard, Verlane and whatever weekenders they had left...."
Nard is still PD. The air shift was just part of his duties, just because you don't hear him doesn't mean he isn't here.

"It's addition by subtraction in the PD arena: WDOK/Q104 PD Dave Popovich assumed PD duties for 92.3 and WNCX, but obviously takes the reins now with Nard gone. By blowing everyone out, it saves CBS even more money. (This is similar to what happened a few weeks back in SF, when CBS took reincarnated heritage oldies outlet KFRC-FM, and killed it to relay their 50kW all-news sister station, KCBS-AM.)"

... you jumped to unverified conclusions "everyone" not "blown out"; Nard not gone.

"I heard them earlier this hour running a spot for a "Inner Sanctum" concert open to the public hosted by Pat the Producer this coming weekend. And Pat was almost certainly fired, and the show had to have been canned. Great job, CBS."

..nope, Inner Sanctum and company still here.

This is how (incorrect) rumors get started, hopefully this clarifies things somewhat.

Fox 8 had a story on the news yesterday about all the dj's getting fired. Nard is still the program director of the station. Nard said that personalities would return but not for about 6-9 months. When the reporter asked him if some of the former Dj's would be returning he said its a possibility.

Did this change happen before or after K-Rock's New York namesake bumped the format down to HD-2 in favor of Top 40?
Well beforehand. Cleveland's K-Rock's ratings were torched after their star personality, Rover, jumped ship to WMMS - and O&A couldn't cut the mustard as his replacement (nor could they cut ANYTHING - it was a ghastly ratings free-fall).

After Rover left... it was all over. K-Rock in NY (failed attempt to rejuvenate a rock format), Free FM in LA (which struggled all-around as a hot talker post-Stern) and WJFK in DC (mammoth ratings drop-off in afternoons after the breakup of the legendary team Don and Mike) were all doomed stations...
