Creeper993,
I wanted to personally respond to your post because it seems like your 'facts' are way off. If your "friend" is the source, more then likely they are a disgruntled employee that isn't giving you the whole story. Because I am the only person that was with K-Rock from beginning to end I think I'm more qualified to educate you on the facts of the inner goings-on at the station.
K-Rock was my baby...I built it from scratch. I will agree with you that Jeff Shapiro and Courtney Galuzzo from Great Eastern Radio did give the station 5 years to become more profitable and they really believed in the staff and the station. It is unfortunate that the station never was able to be where we needed it to be....despite multiple different directions.
You say that I and Clif McNaughton (the GM for most of the time) were "atrocious" at our jobs. Keep in mind we both have approx 20+ years in the business in multiple markets. I also worked for Monadnock Radio Group as well...and we all know, they only hire the best. I come from a broadcast family...my mother and grandmother were in the business. I've always been around radio. If you really think that Clif and I sat in my office and said "Hey, we are succeeding.....lets get rid of the #1 Morning Show in NH - Greg and the Buzz and start something local"...then you really are not giving us much credit. We always worked on trying to give the client the best value we could.
The truth is that despite our best efforts we couldn't get the sales where they needed to be with the staff we could use. Regardless if we were live in the morning....with "The Buzz"....with anything.
Also, Monadnock Radio Group is a well oiled machine....with years of local relationships. We had a much smaller and much less seasoned staff and local advertisers had their budgets set in stone....especially at first. We had to spend a few years proving ourselves in the market.
Saga added even more signals with their HD sub-channels on translators.....with some deals at "a dolla' - a holla". Their package deals arrived in front of the clients faster then we could reach them. We had our own clients that worked with us exclusively as well....so we did 'break into' the market from that sales side...and put a small dent into the Saga armor.
From well known local restaurant owners, to surgeons, blue collar workers, and even a priest.....we would get great comments on our shows.
Take a look at this article from the Keene Sentinel:

For those who didn't click....let me highlight:
==========
Food drive nets 15,000 pounds
K-ROCK Radio and The Fenton Family Dealerships recently teamed up with Market Basket of Keene for the second annual “Stuff-A-Truck” Food Campaign. From Nov. 17-23, the staff members worked from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. to collect food donations from customers at the store. Brick House Tile donated the truck, which then delivered more than 15,000 pounds of food to The Community Kitchen.

This event was a YEARLY event. The first one with just Topher Ceiligh and myself broadcasting in the cold from 7A-7P each day. The 2nd year more staff participation.
Personally, I'm very proud of some of the content that Topher Celigh and myself (as Parker Springfield) were able to put together. So, much so that I wanted to keep some of the old archives alive through a tribute page here:

Was it "raunchy" as you say....hardly. Edgy.... certainly....but it is Active Rock radio. It was 'different' then anything Keene had in the past. We event had interesting and topical guests on the show. Ozzy, Nikki Sixx, Octomom, etc....I guess not entertaining enough for you.
You're comment on the music being "ALL over the place"....I closely monitored stations like WHEB, WGIR, and especially WMMR in Philadelphia which in 2010, was honored by the National Association of Broadcasters with the Marconi award for Rock Station of the Year. So apparently, these stations had their music wrong as well.
I did get comments like...."you need more new stuff" but then the next day I'd get a comment that said "you need more old stuff"...so I felt I had the perfect balance of what we wanted to sound like.
With struggling sales.....sales executive turnover....and Great Eastern acquiring Q106 (my Alma-mater) as stated earlier in the thread....why would they want two rock station competing with each other? With the KIXX simulcast Great Eastern can over a great area with country and rock. KIXX is now....almost just as big as Q106! Great Eastern made the right move and I totally understand why they did it.
I wish them great luck!
Justin Tyler from KIXX is an excellent programmer and Elise Valentine is fantastic and very adaptable.
Great Eastern also offered me a position in Lebanon which I could not take. So, no....it wasn't a "mass layoff" either. It was my choice to stop my broadcasting career. Jeff and Court tried to make the change so that it wouldn't effect any of the full-time staff. I respect them greatly for that.
I will not get into any other reasons why I personally feel that K-Rock wasn't financially successful...as I do have other thought....but I have great pride in what the station was.
Currently, I am out of the broadcasting business for now. If Keene wants an active rock station in the market badly enough....it may happen again...in the meantime....they have Q106 which only can get better and return back to it's former glory that I have fond memories of!
If anyone wants to challenge my *true* "FACTS" please do so....I'll answer them the best I can!
Scott Antonivich (formally Parker Springfield)
