Stern made that whole station what it is. I Live in Rhode Island, well out of the listening range of K-Rock, but as soon as Stern was hired there in 1986, I made it a point to visit the area on several occasions. I quickly became a fan of the radio station as a whole. Then in the late 80's and again in the Mid 90's I lived in the K-Rock listening area. It didn't matter if the station was Classic Rock, New Rock or Alternative. No matter what the format was I really enjoyed the programming.
Unfortunately now comes the end of an Era. Stern will vanish and so will the K-Rock that we all know and Love. K-Rock is going to die just like WNBC did back when Howard was fired. 92.3 in New York will never be the same. While I'm at it...... let me mention that David Lee Roth has got to be the worst choice for a replacement that I have ever heard. He is sure to guarantee that K-Rock sinks faster than the Titanic. Roth offers ZILCH! Carolla for the East Coast stations would have been a much better choice. You people out West got the better deal out of this mess.
Anyway.... I am glad that K-Rock2 lives online. I don't know if K-Rock 2 is a long term plan..... but I sure hope so. I like the music and it will at least keep K-Rock alive in some form. But as far as the terrestrial Signal is concerned, I predict that FREE-FM will die a quick death. At least we can all hope.
