K104 no longer #1

I knew the streak had to end sooner or later, and I think now was the right time, because K104 has became pretty boring. Now Kiss is top dog, and K104 is neck and neck with the weak signal KESS for second. Maybe Nas is right: "Hip Hop is Dead", or at least it is dying a slow death...... Just my two cents.....

If Hip-Hop is dead, then why is KBFB so high in the ratings?

If you think KBFB is real hiphop, then you need to move east for awhile. They are high in the ratings due to their audience under 21, not because they play hip hop.

Good point, CHR. I'm with you.

But K104 isn't really a Hip-Hop station either, is it?

I think buckwhyl is probably one of those guys who has been predicting the demise of Rap for 20 years. Wrong then. Wrong now.

Without the biopic, a large portion of my career has been in urban radio and believe me, when Nas recorded that, he wasn't talking about its crossover or commercial. The LWG contingent (as people in this genre call it, "little white girl") is active in racking up the CDs and ratings for urban radio. The dying aspect of this genre is Urban AC.

However, the reason why CHR is so big is the LWG can have its cake (hip-hop) and eat it too (boy bands, brittany, christina, et al). It's going to be a tug of war in this town, with Latino/Tejano placing the balance off kilter for years to come, unless another format can knock them out. And uh, MoVIN ain't gonna do it. :'(

Which begs the question, "How long until MOVIN' buys the boxes and rents the van?" ;D

I believe Mayflower and Allied are competing fo the contract.

Wrong now. Wrong forever.

1. Don't think, because you don't know me.
2. I loved hip hop back in the days of Run DMC, up to the time of Dj DMD, but I am now a 30-something male who feels that hip hop has changed drasticly. I still like some of it, but some of it, I could do without.

Well, you're too fly for me, home slice. I guess I'd better just leave you and your 98 Oldsmobile alone.

That's right. Respect a old school playa pimpin...

Yo, yo homies... regardless of the plight of hip-hop from Grandmaster Flash to PE to Nas, it is nowhere near the product it used to be. The rappers create for the streets, however, they know right well their CDs are bought in the burbs. LWG 4-LYFE! Ka-ching! 8)

That's what I trying to say.

As I haver heard said in the hood, "I feel ya'"!

OK all, OVER/UNDER - How many books does it take KKDA to kick Kidd's tail off of the top of the mountain?

Number set at 2

KBFB is real hip hop compared to most other urban stations in the U.S, including the East coast. Just look at their playlist and compare it to the national urban chart. KBFB is one of the only urbans in the United States that has the courage not to play Justin Timberlake. I really give KBFB credit for not having a herd mentality, playing real hip hop and not JT gives them a tremendous amount of street credability.

Yes KBFB leans young, that is their niche. Don't you remember all of those years when KKDA and KBFB played the exact same music? Back then K104 was kicking ass by a huge proportion, now look how close it is.

The Beat is real hiphop because they do not play Justin Timberlake? Are you serious? I came into this market from an Urban east coast station and playlists are generally the same across the board but hip hop in its true form is not what the beat plays. You never hear Nas, Mos Def has a new album which alot of stations are playing - not the beat, what about the new Hi-Tek or any of the great singles off the Roots album this year. These are not the major songs that get airplay but if The Beat wants to have courage, they need to step out of the box and expose their listeners to other hip hop artists...justin timberlake....ha!
