K104 vs The Beat

It appears that K104 and The Beat are competing over the former Casa listeners displaced by the flip of 106.7. K104 hired Dj Hollywood and Lil Brownie, which both are former Casa employees. The Beat has changed the name of their five o'clock mix to the "5 O'Clock Caliente Mix". Now both have mixshows on Sundays, 6pm-12am. What shocked me was K104 is now representing at....Club DMX?.... For the few of you on this board who listens to these stations, who sounds better with the changes?

first off i would like to say that i'm glad casa flipped. i hated that station. too bad this flip made it worse that what it was. as for k104 advertising DMX....there's just yet a bigger reason not to step foot in that place. doesnt matter to me which station will come out on top, i dont listen to either station. the one time i did tune in to k104 to hear hollywood mix, i believe he was high.

I would say that the lyrics of the songs on both stations would have resulted in hefty fines only a few years ago. Fortunately when the lyrics get blatantely obscene, there is the pushbutton. I, for one, would like to see some standards in broadcasting again to keep this sort of stuff off the air - no matter how catchy the music. The ironic thing is - right after playing music with the most hedonistic, sexual content imaginable (and some not even comprehensible to a civilized man), they turn right around and talk about going to church or their church or something. Excuse me - but that seems a bit double minded.

I am NOT licking THAT lollipop!

doesnt k104 have some sort of gospel show on sunday mornings?

Buc,
Folks just can't read. He asked for comments from folks who listen to the 97.9 and K104. Both comments come from folks who say they don't listen to said stations.

Darn Shame!!!!!!!

You already know Salem, this board will never change. I think I will just give up. This board will always lean to one side.

Transetic, bruce, say what you want, but urban radio is not leaving. You don't listen, so why did you respond?

Yes, K104 has IBOC on Sundays and The Beat has "The Spirit of Hip Hop" on Sunday mornings. What's wrong with that? Even the biggest sinners need a little Jesus in their life sometimes.

Most folks did not have a problem with hip hop and urban radio until the white kids in Plano started listening to it and brought it home. If you want to see the impact of todays hip hop, watch My Super Sweet 16 on MTV. You have these parents paying to have the hottest hip hop acts come perform at these parties. The majority of the party goers are suburban white kids who know the lyrics just as well as black folk who live in South Dallas.

Just listen to how 106.1 Kiss Fm embraces hip hop. Mixshows and all.

Actually i do listen to hip-hop/rap. Sirius has backspin, hot jams, shade 45 and hip-hop nation. i've tried listening to the beat and k104. too much jibba jabba. just not the same as sat-radio.

I do listen, the music is creative. As long as the artist doesn't spout filth out of his or her mouth.

Jesus is not a little eraser to be used on Sunday to blot out some of the most perverted thoughts every expressed in music. Those artists need to REPENT of their perversion, or "a little Jesus in their life" is useless. I'm glad they put some sort of Christian programming on Sunday mornings, but it really comes off as hypocritical when they blast the airwaves with perversion later in the day. 3 hours on Sunday does not even come close to erasing the damage caused to young African American morals, and young white morals as well the rest of the week. A lot of this stuff is sick beyond any redemption. A civilized nation would act immediately to get it off the air - it only serves to erode the foundations of Western civilization.

I am just as concerned with it contributing to the decline of morals in South Dallas as I am with it contributing to the decline of morals in Plano. Some of the songs are total filth. No matter which culture you come from.

Which is why I stream true top-40 stations from other communities. And the kids my daughter brings over love the change. A couple of them are learning how to stream the stations.
