K1047's Jon Robinson Arrested

Protective Order Violation is typically an issue where someone has an order to not have contact with another individual filed against them, and then that person has the prohibited contact. It is primarily used in domestic situations. The fact that Robinson was ordered held with no bond could mean that the investigating officers felt that his freedom posed a threat to the person who filed the order against him.

Robinson's lawyer probably was able to get bail for him after a few days. What's amazing to me is that he's still on the air, and that the Charlotte news media has not broadcast this "public record" information about him. That could be a demonstration of the effectiveness of a good lawyer, or it may be due to his former association with WBTV News. For some reason it's hush-hush.

I wonder how Tolly Carr feels about this, if he knows.

Later . . . .

This happened in October and it was due to a private issue with his wife. They held him over the weekend in October and he was back to work after this incident but came down with the flu. His throat was severely affected from the virus and has lost his voice.
I spoke to Jon Wednesday and he was on the mend.

I tend to think it's because outside of a few radio groupies nobody really cares, it's not big news that's going to have much of effect on the public at large. I don't see it as any kind of cover up.

Who is Tolly Carr?

People in the media, as a rule, are considered to be public figures. That means they are held to a higher behavior standard than the general public when it comes to violation of the law. In practice, if a radio or television personality is arrested for something that results in a mugshot being taken, it will be the competitors of the station for which that person works that will be the first to put it on their newscast.

Once the word is out, the employing station will usually go through the motions of suspending the person, "investigating" the incident and taking some disciplinary action against the employee. Radio and television stations are VERY sensitive to negative publicity about a person who represents them every day on a broadcast.

Since none of this has happened in this case, could it be assumed that the employer has none of these sensitivities? Personally, I don't think so.

Who is Tolly Carr?

Tolly Carr was the morning show co-host for WXII-TV's morning news about 3 years ago. He was drinking and driving, and struck and killed an individual. The scenario I outlined above happened to him with the media outlets in the Greensboro market. Do a google search on him. It will make interesting reading.

Robinson often didn't show up for his morning show at WDYT and the practice has continued at 104.7. I can remember hearing nothing but music and traffic and news beds one morning. This was before he had a producer, guess that's why they did that. I'm also told he missed an appearance with the Checkers.

Seems to me there's more risk in keeping him than reward, especially for a station that's heavy on music in the morning.

I too am amazed no one covered his arrest, considering Jeff Roper & Richard Spires were both top stories in Charlotte.

Well now we know the rest of the story story:

Good luck Jon. What happened to you shouldn't happen to anyone.

And there, but for the grace of God go every one of us.

Any one of us could have this happen had we made the wrong choices, but Jon has now made the best decision he can make, admitting he has a problem and the need for help that he cannot provide himself.

I always liked Jon he has a great voice and personality. I wish the best for him and truly hope he can make it back to the top!

This has been such sad news about Jon Robinson. I've shed a few tears reading Mark Washburn's article, and while I do not personally know Jon I always thought he was a top notch broadcaster and have always had some ill feelings toward WBTV for not promoting him to a main anchor. I never thought it would have been a "hidden" life that has been one if not the main reason Jon has been unable to hold down a broadcast job for a significant amount of time. It is so sad and disappointing but we are ALL human and no one -- on earth -- is perfect. I pray for God to work a miracle in Jon's life and according to the comments made on the Observer site he appears to have many friends willing to reach out and help. With God, all things are possible and I believe with time that Jon can rise above this. However regarding WBTV and Jon getting passed over for a promotion to a main/regular anchor several years ago -- I wonder how Jon's life would've played out from that point had WBTV given him the main anchor that I believe he so deserved? Do you remember that Jon was passed over for Michael Scott, a "real winner" of an anchor whom I believe lasted all of 6 months at WBTV. Just Google "anchor Michael Scott". If you've forgotten him, you'll see some pictures of him plus the short tenures he's had at stations since WBTV. I remember Michael Scott making me cringe at his dialogue and behavior around the female anchors on WBTV -- seems Shannon Bream was one of them. I was not surprised he didn't last at WBTV and thinking that BT got what it deserved for not keeping and promoting Jon Robinson.
I'm not saying WBTV was responsible for Jon's drug use and out-of-control lifestyle; I believe we are ultimately responsible for own actions and that in today's society it's easy to blame someone or something else. But, I have to wonder if WBTV contributed to any "thread-pulling" in the unraveling of Jon's life. I pray for Jon and a road to recovery.

Or you could just tell us for those who really don't care to watch Fox news rising!

Actually, Mr. Carr guest-hosted the fabled "Fox Charlotte" morning show Mon-Wed. He was not on this morning. To tell the truth, he was so much better than the usual FNR crew, it was embarrassing. I wish him the best of luck and godspeed....

Certainly not to insult Mr. Carr, but it's not hard to outshine that crew!
I would also wish him good luck especially in this economy!

Steve Crump from WBTV sat in for Larson on 12/31, and had Jon Robinson as his guest. What I heard was a great interview, but due to work I didn't hear it all.

The podcast of the show is available for download on WBT.com. I will be downloading it to make sure I get to hear the whole thing. Crump did a great job, not that I would ever expect any less of him!
