K221GV 92.1 Translator for KKGM 1630

Sure, it's generally about two things, first perception that you are "on FM" (especially from a sales and marketing perspective), and second, existing presence on the band so that you can upgrade in the future when the spectrum map changes.

I wish i could get 92.1 in Southern Dallas County. I would be nice to hear the BIN on FM.

isn't there a 92.1 already in Funky Town. Its a country music station correct.
Yes there is, and "Hank" is why the BIN translator's is miniscule. Mortensen took advantage of the revitalization window for all 3 of his AMs. KKGM got the worst of them, but having the translator CP made the facility worth more than the AM as a stand alone.

The 92.1 translator is right off Trinity Blvd by the House Anderson Rd intersection. It looks like a telephone pole. I’d never guess that a radio station transmits there. I remember being able to receive it on SH 360, but I haven’t tried it much. I guess having it on FM makes it more marketable no matter how weak. If the success of the Ticket is an indicator of the current climate, signal limitations are not as much of an issue nowadays. I imagine a great share of the listeners stream.

The antenna the translator has listed as being used with the fcc is not present on street view of the site.

This is what I pulled off of Radio-Locator.

I was thinking it was on that metal pole that you can see in street view. I could be wrong.

that "empty" looking pole is not holding the multi element yagi that should be broadcasting 92.1 but it isnt as empty as you think

zoom in close... see wires and a support system going about 1/3rd the way up? that is KKGM 1630.

It looks like the license for 92.1 was granted after this street view photo was taken.

If someone were to drive by today, they should see it on that pole.. the license to cover was filed on april 26th, which means it was built and is operating.. and we know its on that tower and build because a special condition of the 92.1 license states they had to measure impedance on 1630 after 92.1 was built

Yep, I totally missed that. I would be interested to see if it is on the tower and even receivable.

It would have to be.. as i said, they had to measure impeadance with the 1630 wire antenna because the 92.1 antenna is there so they put it up and left it, which is what they stated was done.

or they never built it and lied or they built it, measured, took it down and havent filed for it to be silent.. neither of the later is legal.

Informal Objection filed by LKCM today, coupled with a request to delay processing. iHeart appears to be in need of a Plan B. I figured K221GV was going to be too close for comfort. LKCM seems to agree.

Actually, I recall now that I wasn’t listening to 92.1. I actually sampled KHVN on the AM going down SH 360. It was a couple years ago. Now that I’ve given it thought, 500 milliwatts at about 30 feet would do good to cover the field behind the transmitter site let alone make it to SH 360.

I drove by the site today and did see another antenna on the side of the pole that wasn’t on street view.
