K254BZ 98.7 Missing

Haven't heard anything on 98.7 recently, just weak reception of Jack-FM (KTXN) out of Victoria. It would appear Radio Vietnam Houston is gone, as the originating KBXX HD-2 has also disappeared. Perhaps not enough room for three Vietnamese language stations in Houston, although 98.7 was the only one on FM, and put a decent signal into the heavily Asian areas of the market.

K254BZ does have a construction permit to move to the Galleria area (from Missouri City) so we'll have to keep an ear out for that.

Either getting ready to move, or they overpowered their transmitter and it overheated and shut off.

Probably the 1st guess.

Unlike a number of other translators, this one appeared to be completely legal, judging from the coverage area and signal strength.

Preparing for the move wouldn’t explain the disappearance of the KBXX HD-2. Even if the analog outlet was off, you think the HD-2 would keep going, or at least have some sort of announcement loop explaining what is going on.

I’m hearing Spanish programming on 98.7 FM. Sounds like religious programming but with the bad reception here on the Northside I can’t confirm. I heard an ID saying in Spanish:

Don’t waste your time listening to other stations, listen to (couldn’t get the name) 98.7 FM.

I guess they’re rebroadcasting LA NUEVA 106.5 From Dallas.

The operator of the Dallas station posted here that they have nothing to do with the Houston station.

I just heard in the Radio the guy saying

Hello to everyone listening to us in Houston on 98.7. Send us a WhatsApp to let us know what part of Houston you’re listening from.

At my Cy-Fair location the new Galleria area signal for 98.7 is about the same as the previous Missouri City facility. Spanish language religion, but I didn’t stick around to get an ID.

I think MrTejano might be right. Sampled 98.7 this morning and heard a commercial break with a bunch of DFW businesses and phone numbers, plus liners for 106.5. Spotty reception prevented me from hearing a "La Nueva" ID.

While the Dallas operator says they have nothing to do with the La Nueva in Houston, that doesn't mean that the DFW station isn't on 98.7 here. I compared programming on 98.7 to a couple of the outlets that the local La Nueva is on, and the audio is different.

My house in Cy-Fair must be in a sweet spot for 98.7; decent reception in my driveway, but very spotty along Beltway 8 and along 290 until I got past Pinemont.

The 98.7 translator in Houston as well as 106.5 in Dallas are both in fact owned by Hispanic Family Christian Network, they do have a Dallas address not a Houston address. It also looks like Maria C. Guel is their president. She must be connected to the engineer everyone's talked about here named Antonio Guel. I can imagine Antonio's the engineer who set up 98.7, but could be wrong.
