Except the demographics where the 104.5 signal is strongest would be all wrong for a Classic Hits format. The east side is heavily Hispanic. West of downtown you have younger hipsters with the rest being longtime residents who have aged out of advertiser-friendly demos.

Sunny doesn't play anything prior to 1980, so there would be very limited playlist overlap.

BTW after a weekend of dead air, the 104.5 signal is now completely off.

Don't fret over it too much, Frog. Looks as though La Mejor is back on the air @ 104-5 as of this AM. The difference being it's coming from where it is supposed to now. Fair to weak signal in north central Houston, nothing at all like it was. I'm twisting and turning the antenna every which way, and it is pretty hard to maintain the signal with any listenable quality.

Mind letting us HD incompatible folks know if it actually is being fed by KTBZ-HD2?

Well here in the Heights you can't listen to it at all.

I heard nothing out of K283CH at checks during morning and evening rush hours. Are you sure you heard it, and not something else?

As of a 6pm check today KTBZ-HD2 still has dead air, but the "La Mejor 104.5" and "Mas musica, menos guiri guiri" display text is still there.

I'm pretty sure it was, Frog. I'm not aware of any other Spanish music stations at 104-5 anywhere near us, other than K283CH. I actually heard what sounded like a morning show, as this was around 9:30 this morning. It was a very tough catch, involving me rotating the antenna due south, then southeast, back towards downtown, all while holding a roll of tin foil in the other hand...

Lol, the foil of course is a joke, but it was pretty hard to make out, and even having a pretty good grasp on the language, I couldn't overcome the static filled, constantly dropping out signal.
 
Ok they're back on, the announcer seems to be the same guy who does the announcements for LA NUEVA
 
Yes, La Mejor 104.5 is back on this evening, although they had one long stretch of dead air around 7:20pm. Solid signal near downtown, so it's from the Chase Tower site.

They've also added liners and sweepers about "Zero commercials, more music" and "The best music in Houston" among others. The station seems to emphasize Banda and Ranchera, as one sweeper stated.

Should note that KTBZ HD-2 was also heard running the format as the feeder station.

Yeah but that's a bad way to start a station, you shouldn't announce it all around till they're sure to launch. I seen Facebook post from their page announcing the station.
 
So far they played two Tejano songs! Piña Colada by Solido and desvelado by Bobby Pulido.

LOL, I'm the same way. I have one of those portable ones but hardly use it, just check the HD signals around town from time to time.

How are they feeding this translator? Did you say they're using an HD receiver? If they're using the audio from an HD receiver there at the downtown transmitter site that's a bad move because they won't get the best quality sound. They should just use a pair of Barix boxes and stream it or something.

If I'm right, the FCC doesn't care how you feed translators linked to HD stations. There are several translators here in town based on HD2 signals, and from listening I think they all sound much better than their HD counterparts.

You might want to edit that, it's not a Spanish format. It's a regional Mexican format. I'm just saying before someone fuzzes at you.
