Yikes. I hope no one leaves their hotel room. That's a nefarious part of town surrounded by shady neighborhoods in every direction.

You'd think that the closure of Greenspoint Mall would be beneficial to that part of town. But instead officials want to build "affordable" housing over the land. That's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

You raise an interesting point. I'm not very familiar with this event or its objectives. Sounds like Is it primarily to boost the egos of those in the radio industry. Is it a revenue-generating opportunity? Additionally, who is organizing this event?

doesn't every radio convention have that same purpose? So we continue to wait and see what sbs comes up wtih for the Houston market. I would think this is Univision's heads up to step it up before they have some real competition. In New York sbs win over and over In La Raza does better than La nueva the only marker where for sure unvision wins is Chicago but i think it would have to be considered that La ley has an inferior signal.

I agree with your perspective. While I hope they profited, i still don't understand how they made money. Have there been any recent updates or rumors from the team at SBS? They were present for the radio conference meeting.

Yes. But most conventions don't feature guests that are past their prime. If this was 1999, then that would have been a killer lineup. But the year is 2024 and many of these people are no longer relevant or have ideas that no longer work well.

Personally, I wouldn't take advice from most of those panelists. Now if you get me a time machine, then now we're onto something! 😉

I really don't think Univision cares in the grand scheme of things. David hinted that Radio is becoming more of a tool for TelevisaUnivision than a dependable revenue stream like in the old days. Of course, that doesn't mean they're going to neglect radio. They're just going to use it for other nonconventional things.

Keep in mind that SBS and Univision may look at "winning" from an entirely different viewpoint. Whichever company does better in ratings doesn't mean much if they both have profitable formats. SBS may be absolutely happy with WLEY playing second fiddle to WOJO-FM in Chicago if they're still making money.

I mean it looks like it had sponsors and a cost to get in.. Sponsors and an entree fee = money i did not go but some people i use to work with did go. I mean you talk about older people but Tom Castro is still very much active and last i checked he sits in the board of directors for LMN and Cumulus. I'm going ask if anything was said about sbs in Houston.

Update: KGBC and K269GS have resumed operations. I’m hearing KGBC with poor audio quality running the Power 105.3 programming. I an not within range of the 101.7 translator.

KGBC has been transmitting nothing but dead air the past few days. Program feed seemed to disappear around the same time K269GS supposedly flipped to Sol Radio.

KGBC has resumed broadcasting after experiencing transmitter issues for several days. KGBC 1540 AM is currently airing as Power 1540/105.3 FM.

KGBC 1540 made it to Alaska a few days ago

Here's my audio of KGBC, with Power 105.3 & Houston mentions .. I leave the recording going because the music had a few nice fade ups. Whatever power they were running, still...... a great catch given the distance, power and pattern.
