K92 FM mornings

First Melissa Moore was sent packing, now Ellis B. Feaster is gone (not sure about Skid). Any idea who will be doing mornings ?

Yeah, I recall reading some rumored comments of that here in another thread recently. Ellis had worked with Cox and NewCity a lot through the years from what I saw, and I can remember hearing him on B94.5 when it first launched. I hope he lands on his feet somewhere else.

Has Doc ever worked a country format before?

Really? Now there's a nifty coincidence.

The best country music morning host available is Don Imus. If he would dump politics for his greatest passion, he could have the first successfully syndicated
morning country music show in America. Just think: an intelligent version of "John Boy and Billy."

I don't think Don Imus is that brilliant, good radio guy maybe, but not that smart. He has been getting away with too many racial innuendos and slurs for far too long and I am glad that they blew him up. This market, Orlando, especially the country crowd is not that savvy to understand Don Imus or his city humor but rather will take him for the racial jerk he really is. That New York humor does not go well with the southern town Orlando still is...Doc on the other hand is a grumpy, frustrated over the hill jock that will fail miserably at K92. Again, Orlando has shown recently through the ratings that they are more adept to either music or satellite programming. Case in point, Cox has the top 5 stations in the market right now a 50min music hour is the ticket not DOC or Imus.

Don Imus was arguably the greatest rock'n roll disc jockey in the history of radio. That is why he is in the radio hall of fame. He loved country and played The Oak Ridge Boys and others back at WNBC in the mid-70's. He was lightyears ahead of Gerry House or any other "legendary" country jocks.
My previous post was somewhat "tougue-in-cheek" as Imus has moved into the political talk arena and would not trade that influence for becoming a yahoo. Vince
Gill and Dierks Bentley will have to settle for cameos as Imus will never be a dj ever again. He's an "Inside the Beltway" guy, far more affluent than any country jock in the
USA.

Great and accurate post raykroc, when you apply it to the Orlando market I don't think he would be as popular...all that politcal talk would go right over the country crowds heads and all they would get is that racial crap he sprinkles into his commentary, making him an immediate turn off. You made my point for me with a few more facts thanks.

The K92FM Morning Show

Tune in Monday morning as we welcome Doc Holliday to K92FM!!
More details coming soon.....

I listened to Doc (never listened to him before) and K92 (not a country music fan) for the first time today. I was impressed. I was expecting more of an Imus type show. It was not. I feel he did well. And just think he did it without the normal morning circus every other station feels is needed to pull ratings. He pulled his first day off as a professional. I will listen again.

i just have to ask.......radio-connector, or whatever it is. i see you ripping Imus, and i see you ripping Doc.
i know these boards give courage to those who dont have to ID themselves, but honestly, what are your
credentials to blast either one? What have you ever done, and if you have done great things, i will respect it. I am not trying to start a piss fest, but i read that, and i am like, your blasting 2 really good air talents, and Imus is a hall of famer, so he passes for great.

First of all, these boards are not based on credentials they are based on personal opinions. I do not have to fill out an application to register for these boards. I don't have a problem with anyone disagreeing with my personal opinion, as a matter of fact I am always looking for different points of view. That is why I come here in the first place, but since you asked, I am heavily involved in the industry and keep my ear to the ground in the Orlando market.

I was simply trying to apply Imus style to the Orlando market. I was born and raised in New York and I know Imus. Anyone involved in radio know his accomplishments. No one outside the industry care’s about his stats as an on-the-air jock, what they care about is the latest news and Imus is not at the top of most people’s nice guy or most entertaining list right now. As far as Doc, listening to him on XL the guy seemed worn out and angry. It was apparent based on listening to him, I know that it’s based on perception but as they say perception is sometimes reality. I don’t think I am the foremost authority on personalities but I am not stupid. I know when someone sounds angry and tired on the air. I think the time off helped him and his new style of keeping it simple that I heard yesterday may actually work with this format. It sounds like he desperately needed a change. I hope he succeeds, it’s nothing personal but that he sounded horrible on XL there is no doubt in my mind. Also, if he were to sound like that on K92 it simply wouldn’t work. He is going to get his surge in the ratings based on being a novelty but keeping it will be the trick. The rating right now is pulling towards satellite programming and music. I did hear a lot of music; it was not just about him. If I wrong in my thinking I invite anyone to rebut.

Well, much like Imus, thats sort of Doc. I cant say i heard him sound like crap.
Do you think the new direction they have taken will be better? It's not as biting
or blunt. And yea, The in your face guys always seem to sound mad, so i will
give you that. I wasn't trying to attack you, but if you re read the post, it almost
sounded personal. Of course, this is america, and we are allowed to state how we feel.

Not to mention that you, shoothoops, are actually Doc. You're a little like Rickey Henderson, referring to yourself in the third person.

no actually brad, i am a fill in stand up comic at the improv
that nobody thinks is funny, so i am bored an talk about radio.
But he must be some kind of basketball player.

It's important not to pigeonhole country music fans in the South as rubes just because they don't get Imus. Folks down here were never partial to Stern, either, and that explains the success of John Boy & Billy, Lex & Terry, and even to an extent Ace & TJ. I think most country listeners want a morning show heavy with music, but with personalities (not jocks ... there IS a difference) that know their town.
Look at Jacksonville. John Boy & Billy bombed, as are Big D & Bubba on Rooster. QIK has solid local pros with Boomer & Robbie, and Renda brought in veterans like Steve, Eden, & Amadeus from Top 40 WAPE for their market saavy.
Don't be surprised to see Doc do well in the long run. Loyal fans will jump formats to stay with an on-air favorite.

Absolutely Brother Bear is right on this.. The South is a very fickle radio market and then again they are a very devoted market to individual talent..makes no difference what they are playing, It's the Talent" Gee did I say that?? Bear, what are you doing now? APE!
