K95 Cares For Kids

This morning K95 kicked off our 2nd radiothon to raise money for the St. Francis Children's Hospital. I urge you all to listen and donate! You'll hear some great radio over the next few days.

Is that with Children's Miracle Network? You wouldn't happen to be working with my old friend Jim Littrell, would you?

Yes. Jim is, or at least used to be, the Radiothon coordinator for Children's Miracle Network. I worked for him at KPLA for a few years.

We are working with Anthony. Can't remember his last name off the top of my head but I like him a lot. He fed me yesterday. :)

Too bad he didn't feed you to the lions out at the Tulsa Zoo. ;D

If I ever heard great radio and radiothon at the same time, It'd be the first time.

Gotta agree. It's very rare. But I have heard it. Done right...it's some of the best radio out there. But unfortunately, most can't do it. It's tricky and there are very FEW on this planet who can move you to emotion and action like that.

Apparently you've never heard me kick off a 45 RPM BTO rocker at 33 1/3 while doing a Miracle Network Radiothon. They thought I was in psychosis.

I gotta agree, most radio-thons are worse than pulling teeth... based on last year, though, K95 is the happy exception. Tom, Kelley, Matt & Karla brought the audience (& themselves, at times!) to tears last year, with heartbreaking tragedies and heart-warming triumphs. It was so good it was awkward to listen to at times... the emotions were just too strong.

Yet, the way it's put together, it's not a constant emotional beating... there were some great drops with kids asking you to call to donate between songs, more lighthearted, fun stuff... it's something Cox and K95 in particular can really, really be proud of.

Thank you NightAire.

Bobby, it wouldn't be the first time I was fed to lions. ;)

It's been crazy. Sometimes you find yourself begging for the phone to ring while other times calls are rolling over. It is something I'm very proud to a part of.

Matt-
The entire Cox operation is a class act. When you have guys like Steve Hunter handling OPs you just know every attention to detail will be expected. Cox Radio as a cluster is today's version of yesterday's Rockin' 97 KAKC. Under Hunter, only the cream of the crop works for the Cox Tulsa station group. It's funny, down through the years I worked on almost all of those FM freqencies but never for Cox. They came along too late for me, and to tell you the truth I was such a pain in the butt when they did come along, they probably would've fired me the same month they hired me. Great bunch of talent on both sides of the mic over there including a terrific engineering team. Unless it's to put personality back in the act, don't change. There is one thing I would change and its Spirit 102 whatever. Make it an 80's station or a blues/jazz station. I hate contemporary gospel music.

Yours In Jesus,
Bob O'Shea
