Three likely causes depending how station is set up-
1- Ethernet latency in their Audiovault system causes occasional dropout.
2- Digital STL "drops a bit" or high bit error rate due to atmospheric conditions between studio and transmitter. (25+ mile hop involved)
3- (If using a T1 for any leg of the chain)- "CRC" errors in the bit stream causes framing loss.
Any of these would cause the problem you described.
If I were the CE (and I'm not), I would start with the ethernet. This could be the start of a LAN switch going bad.

I would totally agree with MB that it sounds like the LAN switch problem I had with a LPFM that was pushing 128kB from a downtown location out 9.6 miles to the tower located in re-aclamated coal mining land....
