Here's my thought on Kaare Johnson's candidacy for the Council at Large Race:
yeah he did not make the runoff, but please give Kaare credit for wanting to improve the quality of New Orleans.
Also, along with his partner in crime Eric Asher, UNCOVERED serious corruption going on at City Hall.
He may sound a little bratty on the radio, but Kaare is FOR REAL...........
Great Work Kaare-when you win the mayor's race in 2010, the real changes will be revealed and I CANNOT WAIT.

C'mon Axe, live in the real world.

Yeah I give Kaare credit for running. But he got 4,500 votes, 5 times less than the two morons who made the runoff. And now you have winning the Mayor's seat??? And he's going to go from hundreds listening on 690 to tens of thousands??? Take the station from a .9 to an 8 share??? Kaare's been on for over year on 690 and for years on 870. The management at 690 is just slower to catch on to what we already know: nobody cares about what Kaare has to say.

Kaare for real??? He wouldn't even have a job if it weren't for his daddy.

From his time on radio and his daddy, Kaare had name recognition. But everyone knew he's a fraud.

So, let's see. For New Orleans mayor in 2010, Jim Letten, Arnie, or Kaare? He couldn't beat an 80-year-old Jackie Clarkson??? The only way Kaare becomes the next mayor is if he runs against Mama D.

Since we are living in the real world, Kaare doesn't have a chance in the mayor's race as it will be a runoff between William Jefferson & Eddie Jordan !

I personnally can't wait for Kaare's return. It's been too long since I've heard a talk host waste so much airtime talking about himself and too long since Buddy Stahl's been on the air.

Come on Kaare...it's time to grow up and get out of your daddy's shadow. If you want to be a talk show host, be a talk show host. Not a part-time sports, full-time egomaniac.

Get some interesting guests, because the people you think are interesting, aren't. Talk about the recovery (and not just what you would do if you had won the council race). Don't talk about sports. If I wanted sports I'd listen to WWL. Leave the sports for Saturday.

Being on the air is a gift. Start using it and not just to feed your own ego.

Why the stuff about Kaares dad? I never hear him bring that up except in his election commercial.

He finished behind 4 known politicians and in ahead of the TP's endorsed candidate right? I doubt if he runs for mayor think thats kind of a stretch.

I do agree with axe, I hear asher or him talking about something, a day or two later its front page news, so someone is listening. Didnt Asher get an exclusive with Sheppard last week?

Coming from a sales background, Id have to say that everyone in a on-air role has an ego. Some more than others. Don't the good ones usually have one? Thats what makes them good isn't it?

Another thing I hear is local callers on 690's syndicated shows. Ive heard alot on Mancow and Boortz lately. Savage not as much but have heard some from new orleans.

He brought up his dad in every tv and radio commercial and never failed to "mention" it when he talked to the T/P. Kaare's whole platform was 1) putting 100 cops on the streets in 100 days (which he couldn't do unless he pulled all of the dead weight off the paperwork detail, and what good would they be?) and 2) my daddy was Phil Johnson ("Kaare, how did you get that name?" "From my dad, Phil Johnson". Excuse me, everyone gets their name from their parents).

Eric has brought up some things. I don't know if he "uncovered" corruption. He interviewed Derrick Shepherd but, didn't ask him the really tough questions like, where the rest of the money is? Eric always sounds tired. Hope they're not overworking him. And why is he "friends" with Derrick Shepherd and Arnie Fielkow? How can he objectively cover them when he's their friend?

Kaare never broke anything. He is the laziest talk host out there. That's why he can't get guests. That would require work and planning.

I probably shouldn't write this before the show, someone will tip him off, but count how many times today and this week he talks about his campaign. And how long before he brings up the Saints or the Hornets? Lazy.

The very notion that Asher/Johnson is the local radio version of Woodward/Bernstein uncovering corruption is a bigger fantasy than all 3 Lord of the Rings movies put together. Eric works hard, and God Only Knows he's trying, but a .4 rating is a .4 rating....Johnson's rating was a .3 (as of last book).

LOL with the "Johnson envy".

I listened yesterday just to see if he would be different. He learned nothing while he was gone. Kaare should listen to talk radio to learn how to talk to people, how to entertain an audience, what people are talking about, and what's going on in New Orleans.

Everyone's talking about Eddie Jordan, Kaare talks to George Shinn. We get enough sports talk already. People are talking about the fires in California and comparing them to Katrina, Kaare's talking about Aaron Broussard. People are talking about Bobby Jindal, Kaare's talking about himself.

I'll still listen to Mancow and Eric but at 2:59, I'm punching out.

Are those 12+ or Men 25+ john? Makes a difference in talk radio.

Woodward/Bernstein is funny but it's interesting I heard Asher talking all day yesterday about Eddie Jordan resigning and lo and behold, it's front page news on NOLA.com.....It's America, we can all like what we like but I know where to go when I want to hear some truth from a talk show host

Was he saying "I know he's resigning" or "I want Eddie Jordan to resign"? There's a big difference. And of course, he could have pulled one out of his you-know-what.

littlelarry,
A heads up. When you get a .3 in any demo... ANY DEMO, it ain't good. Men 12+, men 25+, makes no difference. It ain't good. a third of a point. Less than 1/2 a point. In any demo, it ain't good. A .3??? Makes no difference, not even in talk radio. Not good at all. Point 3?

In the words of gerryv, "Yikes!"

As an old boss once told me, "if you can't get a one... yerr done."

Your old boss must never have dealt with Arbitron. If their target is 12+ then yeah those numbers would be bad. If their target is M25+ then I'd be interested to see where they are then. For a talk format, you really need to see the target demo to see if a station is doing anything ratings wise. I know I use to sell a station that was around a 2.0 12+ but our target demo of women hovered around a 5, which we were able to sell. I'm gonna contact some old heads and see if they can get a peek but I can't post here.

Larry - a .3 is a .3. Any demo.

I just heard a promo on Eric's show where Kaare says "If I worked as hard as I did on my campaign in real life, I'd be a millionaire." Well, dude, how about doing some work on your show. Learn how to talk without stuttering. Get some interesting guests. Stop using the sports crutch (Eric too, too much with the Fox 8 guy). Do some WORK. Stop living off your daddy and the time you spent on the Big 870. Then maybe someone will listen.

To the management of 690, do you really think that anyone on or off air at your station could work at another New Orleans radio station? If you think that, you're delusional.

Oh, he delt plenty with Arbitron, but never with a .3 in ANY demo. Not even the 25-34 bald left handed bald dwarf demo. Got a 1.7 even in that one. And the "target" demo was 35-64, were over 6foot tall, right handed, full head of hair men.
Still nailed a 1.7 with the little people.
;)

Tried to listen to Kaare yesterday. He talked to George Shinn Monday and yesterday to another guy from the Hornets. When is he going to learn that if we wanted sports we'd be listening to WWL?

Kaare, stop shilling for free Hornets tickets!

You have 2 hours a day. You can't find 2 good newsworthy guests to talk to? Aaaaand, Buddy Stahl doesn't count. Learn something from the guy on last week. He had a different guest every 15 minutes, and talked about real issues.

And, speaking of 15 minutes, try going 15 minutes without talking about your run for council.

Whoever hired this guy should be shot! After Eric, I'm done with 690 for good.

Let's be honest. Kaare's only claim to fame is his dad. Kaare has no talent, but he has imaginary cugunas to run for an office for which no one is interested in him, not a credit to him but just stupid chutzpah, and something for which he's not qualified in the least.

Kaare, stay the spokesman for Louisiana Shrimp, something that you can identify with. You *are* a Louisiana shrimp! Then go away and do editorials for WUPL that no one will hear or be interested in, like your dad.

Get a job. Use Julian Lennon and Sean Lennon as models of the insignificance of the second generation of icons.
