KABC's Larry Elder Show Ending Syndication

The long rumored changes at ABC Radio Networks are starting to happen. He's local only after 8/12.

How much longer before he's the first first full-time casualty at KABC under Citadel? He is the highest paid at KABC and Citadel is known for being cheaper than Cheap Channel. Now if only Citadel would get rid of Erik Braverman, I'd applaud that.

His syndication is a joke. simply way to appease his huge ego. you'd
figure in order to syndicate a show it should at least win its daypart.

That, too. Maybe he can get another syndicated TV show to make up for it. Bwah hah hah haha.

It's about time. He's basically local only. The only station I know that runs him before 3am is KPEL-FM in Lafayette, LA. Wow!
He's on live after Sean Hannity on the ABC Talk Channel on XM.

He's also live on Sirius' ABC News-Talk Channel as well.

I wonder if these satellite channels will continue to carry him. They've got to fill up the channel with something. ABC does an all-news morning show just for the satellite channels... maybe Larry will continue on the satellite channels too.

No. Larry Elder will be local only. Up against John and Ken he will always be a loser. As Terry Anderson (on KRLA) www.theterryandersonshow.com said last night "He sucks".

Larry's listenership probably went into a free fall after his stance supporting the recently failed immigration bill. "It's better than doing nothing" paraphrasing what he said.

He'll be going local as of next monday, but will still be on XM and Sirius TFN

I hear KVTA in Ventura is replacing him with the sound of a right hand clapping, and will doubtlessly do better.

Wow, and a real professional address too: PMB 803, 10061 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake, CA 91602.

Isn't that the Mailboxes R Us next to the original Bob's Big Boy?

Except Dennis Miller bounced him off Detroit and Houston within the past couple months. So, the only market of significance outside of LA is Seattle... at 3 in the morning. Wow!

Larry seemed to lose a lot of relevance (and undoubtedly ratings, although this I can't prove) when he abandoned his pure libertarianism to become a shill for David Drier and the Republican party. His show lost much of its "edge" while at the same time John and Ken shifted their show up into another gear.

The constant race issues that come up on his show have become tedious as well. I think after awhile, his audience simply grew tired of the same old arguments, even if they agreed with him in principle.

If he wants to remain relevant in radio, he needs to retool his show at the local level - big time. However, I believe he is losing his passion for the game and is looking more and more into the political arena. He would be much better served revamping the show though - while he still has time.

Elder should just move over to the Hugh Hewitt wing of the Museum of Failed Rush Wannabes.

What's the point of that? Especially when they have Mark Levin on tape delay at 9 PM and they could move him to 6 PM on the ABC News & Talk channel (which is the same on both services since it's programmed by Citadel). Maybe it's Citadel's way of telling Larry "Look, you're not good enough to be syndicated anymore, but tell you what, we'll keep you on ABC News & Talk and you'll still be heard all over the country. Eh? Eh?!" while they pay him a reduced salary.

I dont think there is a point. The day that levin was brought in, it didnt make any sense, at that day part. Now that Larry's going local, the Levin move is makin more and more sense. Eventually I think he's going to move into Larry's daypart.

I believe they taped Levin because they were still trying to grow his AM/FM affiliate base, and didn't want an alternative to cannibalize the show. He wasn't on ABC News & Talk until months into his syndication gig and ever since he's been on tape. Also on the channel is a local show from Dallas' WBAP, The Mark Davis Show, which is delayed to noon eastern.

Elder opened his last show on his "network" by announcing all the markets he was carried in, but did not have the cajones to mention that he weas going off the air in those markets.

He went out with a half truth. Amazing.
