This may be extremely old hat , but , I just found out that KABL ( " San Francisco " , except that , when they were on-air , I think that they were , ACTUALLY , FCC-liscenced to Oakland , NOT SF !!!!!!! ) , which had been on 92.1 FM outside of SF after losing its AM to an Air America , is off the air entirely , and now Web-only .
Any chance of a return ?

I was in Monterey, CA a couple of weekends ago. An AM station was calling itself KABL, playing adult standards. It was not quite the same as I've heard on the KABL web stream. This was called "The Paisano." I really liked it. They they had a very good sounding signal. I first heard it in a restaurant, and thought it was FM. It sounded that good. The ID was Monterey-Salinas. 1460, I think.

'El Paisano' is obviously Spanish. Why would they use that as a brand?

It wasn't "El Paisano." It was "The Paisano," which I took to be Italian. The imaging had a sort of "friendly mafia" feel. One of the liners was something along the line of "Our Board of Directors is presided over by Frank" (Sinatra), folowing which, a Sinatra song played. They also played an occasional song in Italian. I'm pretty sure I heard "O Solo Mio" and "Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu," among others. Some of the Italian stuff was better than others.

Since that area of California has a decided Italian influence, it made sense to me.

It was a good station. I'd listen to it a lot if I lived there.
