KABX 97.5 Flips from Oldies to AC Hits now known as K97.5

KABX is now playing Adult Hits from the 70s to today.
So far heard The Frey, Supertramp, Phil Collins and Katy Perry.

Doesn't Mapleton already have an AC station at 106.3.
Now Fresno/ Merced doesn't have an Oldies station ( that is not all R&B), another format missing.
The music they are playing now can be heard on KALZ, KJWL ,KSOF and KWYE.

Yeah! I know. Why do we need another station when four other stations play the same format? 97.5 was the ONLY station around where it played rarities and stuff you don't always hear on Classic rock stations. Also, that station was a great public service to this valley in terms of events such as car shows and high school class reunions. This is a HUGE mistake! I don't know what the hell they are thinking over at Mapleton!

Was driving up to Coarsegold earlier, and came across this travesty while flipping thru my presets! I can't believe that any company that would have even half a brain would flip the format of a station when they have the had the format all to themselves! What next, is every station in the entire valley going to go spanish on FM and talk on AM? Sorry about the rant, but mad that I just lost the last station that plays music I listen to, and I am in the lucrative 25-45 bracket (33). Not everyone in my generation listens to punk and alternative. Sorry, mapleton, but you lost at least one more listener!

Here I Go Again (like the song by Whitesnake) that I heard Today on K97.5, Time moves on, I'm 50, and Im officially out of the targeted demographics, but I don't get it, KABX Ratings were great in Merced, something not avaliable anywhere else, and another thing why do we need John Tesh, and Delilah on both KSOF and KABX, there signals have a hugh overlap, I can pick up KSOF in Merced and KABX in Visalia.
For our Oldies we can listen to Art Laboe's show on 94.3 KOKO or Vern's weekend show when available.

As bad as KABX was, it was better than nothing. Now, we have yet another sound-a-like AC station and for what? I agree kenryac, this is yet another example of how bad Fresno radio has become. Now that I've KRTH and their HD-2 running through my outdoor speakers, I've my oldies fix when I'm in the mood. Frankly, not sure if I even need an FM radio these days.

Speaking of oldies and what would never see the light of day in Fresno. Ok, back to 100.3 The Sound for my afternoon by the pool. Some great Elton John stuff today, in celebration of his arrival in the U.S. some 41 years ago this week. Anyone here remember the first concert at Selland - maybe 3,500 or so. Little did they know...

I would like to say one thing for KABX it lasted longer in the oldies format than just about any station I can think of other than KRTH in LA. I believe that Mapleton will rue the day they made this change with all the other stations playing this music in the valley already! God radio everywhere just sucks hiney wine! Shame on the folks ruining this once great medium for entertainment choice and diversity in programming! Thousands and thousands of radio stations and nothing to listen to, but hundreds of stations with K-Love on them all over-lapping each other. Now that is Sad! Oldies are dead just like it's audience, that's sad too.

You know what? Merced used to have a great AC station on 106.3 playing Westwood One's Bright A/C with Bob & Sheri in the Mornings... then along came Mapleton and changed the format on that poor station about 8 or 9 times over the past 10 years. Along the way, they also destroyed the signal. 106.3 used to be non-D and had coveage basically from Madera to north of Modesto. Not any longer. After the attempted/failed purchase of 106.3 in Kingsburg, Merced's 106.3 is now directional and hardly covers it's own market. It doesn't make it to Chowchilla, and barely makes Turlock. The signal sucks. It was playing AC, but now Spanish Oldies... and sounds terrible...

KABX used to play ABC's Oldies Format, then it's own music with a consultant.... and a program director who knew absolutely zero about Selector and had exactly 250 songs in rotation out of a 2500 song library.... it wasn't all that good.

So then Mapleton put it on Dial Gloabal's Good Time Oldies satellite, which was ok, but then Dial Global dropped the format and KABX switched to their most recent format, which was mostly 70's and 80's music. However, DG brought back their Good Time Oldies format, but KABX decided to stay where they were, calling themselves "Greatest Hits".... playing mostly 70's and 80's music while on the satellite, and a bunch of 50's and 60's when Wolfman Jack, Dave Luna, or other programs were on... then Angie Munroe during the Noon Hour played a bunch of what I'd call Hot AC..

I think KABX sounded like a ship without a rudder, they had lost their identity, they diidn't really know who they were.
Everytime that an AC station left Merced, folks were upset. Hopefully KABX will fill that void. Personally, I like the way it sounds... and I'm 64 yrs old.

Didn't Jenny West (formerly of KWG-1230) use to program KABX?

that's correct, she knew absolutely nothing about Selector... there was 2500 songs in the library and 250 in rotation.... it was horrible.. I used to drive home from work every day at about 7:30 and hear the exact same song in the exact same part of the 7 PM hour. I even mentioned it to her one day, and she absolutely denied that could happen.

Mapleton Has Flipped KBOQ-103.9 in Monterey from Classical Music To AC. Similar To The New KABX. Now Known As "The New B-103.9".

Classical music and Oldies/Greatest hits, Gee! I think I know what demographics there are in Monterey and Merced before the flip. They must be a dying breed.
