KAET's digital signal off

Analog is up, but the digital signal has been down all day. Anyone know what happened?

Transmission line burned up. It may take a few days to restore service.

Well at least they have to suspend running their snobbish liner:

"The following program is presented in KAET HD...in selected homes." 8)

Oh wait, that used to be their stereo liner some years back.

Did that blurb ever cause anyone not to contribute to pledge week,
due to its snobbishness?

That, or the "selected homes" are those that did contribute to KAET.

As for suspending that liner, they probably won't if the HD services are directly fed to cable companies.

Can you guys elaborate on the transmission line burning up? Is it just bad engineering or is it because of something like a lightning strike (unlikely with our weather) or something similar?

TIA...

It could be a number of reasons why the transmission line burned up. A lightning strike may be one of them, given the bad electrical storms we had this summer could have damaged the antenna and/or the line. It could also be something with the transmitter or antenna (IIRC, KAET's DT signal went on the air around the same time many others in this country did so, and the rush to build antennas and line might have affected the quality control). I think I remember that KNXV-DT and KASW-DT have had issues like this in the past few years as well. I wouldn't put blame on the engineers, they're doing all they can to keep up with this new technology.

Speaking of which, if it is an antenna failure, it might be more cost-efficient for KAET just to make the analog-to-digital conversion early, given they are moving the digital to Channel 8.

Any guesses as to why the info isn't available on their web page? I thought I was having issues with my receiver and it was making me nutty futzing with it.
