K217DP 91.3 had the antenna in a persons backyard in Barker. It was on Country Park Court in the middle of a subdivision. If you take the coordinates for K217DP and go to the FCC's Media site and then Cirle Plots then do a one mile radius you get the street names along with the location of the antenna. The translator in Kemah is the same thing in a subdivsion.
I heard K217DP testing for sometime and it had a solid signal where I live and totally covered KPVU 91.3 with just an open carrier. KPVU has a fair signal at my location, not great but listenable. If there is some enhancement or tropo from the Prairie View area, KPVU can be very good. KVLU 91.3 Beaumont can totally wipe out KPVU if there is a good opening from The Golden Triangle, which we really haven't had for a while, which is unusual, unless I am just missing them. Last night the only station I had from The Golden Triangle was KKMY 104.5 with Delilah, and her program really grates on my nerves.
I never heard any actual programming being rebroadcast over K217DP. The antenna was 60 meters or nearly 200 feet, so no hiding it from the neighbors. My guess is that it is against the subdivision rules to have an antenna of that height in your yard or his/her neighbors gave them so much grief about the antenna and radiation from the signal that the person decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
I live 14.9 miles from the K217DP antenna with a ~44.9dbu signal and 37.9 miles from KPVU with a ~47.3dbu signal. Although the Translator wiped out KPVU with just an open carrier. It may not have been set up where the coordinates say K217DP should be or it was stronger than it should have been.
The company K217DP is licensed to is Best Media, Inc and they have 27 Translators from NY to CA, TX to IL, so they cover the country. It sounds like one of those get rich schemes where you buy the all the equipment from Best Media and they get the license or it is licensed in their name. Who knows how many different names this company goes under. It is like trying to track down the stations owned by Roy E Henderson, he has so many different company names.
A check of the location shows no sign of any antenna or any signal. I have no idea of the status of K217DP other than it does not exist at this time. It is in the FCC database as licensed. If the station will come back at another location or just remain silent is anyones guess. There is not any applications filed with the FCC to move K217DP or cancel the license.
The Translator was legal as far as the FCC was conccrned, it was outside of the 60dbu-1.0mV/m signal of KPVU and the signal from K217DP did not enter into KPVU's 60dbu signal.
