KAHM Sells Out

So are they still planning on moving closer to the valley?

Now that the Salome station surrendered its license, KAHM needs to fulfill its CP to move to Towers Mtn. That move has no bearing on reception in Prescott, but enables 102~One to rimshot Phoenix. CCF's translator at 101~Nine has already proven to be just as good generating ratings as their non-comm 88~Three...but can legally run commercials.

So in the bizarre world of Los Buckeye Boyz, will 88~Three continue the next five years stunting KNAI's move to 101~Nine? Will CCF sell 102~One after moving to Towers Mtn and bag a big profit? Will the LMA operator have the dough to exercise their first right of refusal to purchase 102~One? Will the Old Gringo discover research indicating Elevator Music is now attracting Men 18-49? We don't know...but we're definitely staying KAHM!

The Bradshaw stations don’t fare well in Prescott City Limits, despite being in the 60dBu contour. Even the Mingus stations like KAHM have their problems in Prescott proper, too (hence, the 101.7 translator).

100% Correct. The hills and mountains cause lots of multipath.
Even stations on Mt Francis and near Willow Creek Rd have their
coverage issues.

As a matter of fact, we were in the middle of a music test of our "Mantovanni for The Middle Aged" but most of the respondents fell asleep, and some drooled on the dial used to score the songs, causing them to short-circuit and stop working.

Well, so much for that idea. Did any of them stay for the Early Bird dinner at 2:30pm?

There was an incident at the venue's restaurant. When the menu included neither chicken nor turkey, fights broke out about "Fake Advertising" as there was no "bird" on the menu. The restaurant owner gave them the bird, but was immediately hit with a crutch and run over by a scooter.

We should have known anything could happen in the high crime area of Sun City.

You'll know you're in big trouble when you find yourself encircled by golf carts.

Darned shame those hooligans acted that way. The Nurse and I were so anxious to learn which artist came out on top of the testing: Mantovani, Percy Faith, Ray Conniff, 101 Strings, or Manuel & The Music of The Mountains. We'd have voted for Lex de Azevedo because he covers just about everything and is still vertical.

I think it was a toss-up between Caravelli and Paul Mauriat!

My vote would go to Percy Faith Doc. He actually scored one of the longest running #1 hits of all-time during the 1960’s with his Theme From a Summer Place lasting an eye-popping 9 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in early 1960. Not even the Beatles could top that feat (they tied it in 1968 with Hey Jude, also on top for 9 weeks). The Theme From a Summer Place remains the longest running instrumental at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. And who says instrumentals can’t be popular? :)

Apparently, some of the folks who have all the answers but don't know the questions on this forum........

They can be...but as a commercial radio format, nope. Elevator music aged out before PPM existed. And PPM had a lot to do with the demise of Smooth Jazz. As Dylan said, you'd don't need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. But you have to pity me as I'm the one who knows which way Nurse Jeff's wind blows!

Anyone now when the move to Towers will happen? I was driving around Fountain Hills and Tempe today and the signal was much better. Will they still keep the Mingus site as an aux?

There will be NO move. The 102.1 frequency is too close to the 101.9 translator frequency CCF is now using in the Valley.

I think they can co-exist. Look at 98.9 and 99.1 in the San Francisco bay area.

In the case of KAHM and K270BZ, there is now 60 dbu contour overlap for the translator and the CP.

KAHM won't have to move because CCF already has 101.9.

The translator does not even get a 60 dbu to Peoria, so any additional coverage added by 102.1 will be a bonus.

Worth noting here: KOAI and K235CB, which is indirectly fed by KOAI. Very similar situation.

CCF owns the properties, but the LMA keeps the same programming the listeners are used to. "There will be no changes."
