she's a real good 'ol boy (gal) townie..

today's BosHerald:

"
Kahn’s also a big fan of former House Speaker Tom Finneran, who sources say has been talking to the station about a possible on-air role. Finneran was indicted last year on perjury and obstruction of justice charges and his trial is set for January.
“He’s a charming guy. I can’t comment on whether he’d ever work for us, but he’s a raconteur. I like him,” Kahn said.
Sources familiar with WRKO’s plans say the idea is to expand upon its political talk with other topics as it attempts to reach Boston’s baby boomer population.
As the station looks to replace ex-host John DePetro and prepares to broadcast Red Sox games next year, it is eyeing talk talent for a morning show with rotating co-hosts, similar to WEEI’s “The Big Show”, but with news.
Finneran’s friend, talent agent Stephen Freyer, said yesterday “a number of outlets in Boston” have expressed interest in Finneran over the past few years. "

and here

"
WRKO has also expressed interest in Herald columnist Margery Eagan and NECN anchor Jim Braude on rival talk station WTKK (96.9-FM), sources said. "

...

You didn't include the startling statement, in the same article, where Ms. Kahn states future WRKO hosts needed to be well versed in sports talk. Not to mention that the station will focus on "baby boomers." She really needs to leave the press calls to someone else or at least take that call before lunch.

is she hoping to undermine other managers by blabbing to the papers what *** she *** wants? Why does she make this stuff public?? not the usual hiring routine..

Sounds like she is very publicly letting Wolfe know who wears the slacks in the RKO family.

it'll backfire, kahn's tipping off the competitiion about her plans, not bright

She will be tipping off her job if the Red Sox don't make it into the post season in the next couple years after what they paid for those broadcast rights.

Another example that Kahn is a fool.
The clock is ticking until her A@* is kicked out of there.

It's not going to happen..you obviously don't understand the business. Juile Kahn manages one of Entercoms most succesful clusters. The amount of money that WEEI, WAAF, WRKO and Mike pull in are astronomical.
Last year WRKO had a higher revenue stream than WBZ, and that, my friend is the real NUMBER people look at

it's not so simple, it would bill just as much w/o julie, she's on thin ice..

Bostonrose has clearly always sided with WRKO. Please show us posts that have him/her disagreeing with Entercom.

But here's why Kahn is clueless

http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=167683

The news team - which includes veteran, award-winning journalists - was summoned to a meeting at 4:30 p.m. yesterday. One by one, they were called into Entercom GM Julie Kahn’s office and handed a severance check.

Sources confirmed to the Herald that WRKO brass has been talking to former House Speaker Tom Finneran about a possible on-air role. Finneran was indicted last year on federal charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. The case goes to trial in January.

==================================================================================
There you have it - award-winning journalists axed, to be replaced by - a man indicted on federal charges
of perjury and obstruction of justice. If he doesn't go to jail he goes to WRKO, directly to WRKO, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.00. Monopoly anyone?

Anyone notice both Kahn Star Treks - the tv show and the movie - repeated last night on the TV Channel.
too coincidental!

WEEI has begun using its new corporate name, Boston Broadcasting, - it's actually seven months old - and has named Rod Fritz its assistant news / programming executive.

It's actually Entercom's largest cluster in terms of market size too and i would assume it's largest biller. Most of their properties are medium markets but Boston is Entercom's only top ten market. She has to tow the company line and pump up Finneran if he is to be the new boy. I dont think she's tipping her hand to any competitors either when was the last time that you saw something printed in the paper that turned out to be exactly what a station ended up doing? She's just stirring the pot to get people talking is my guess. She may be clueless which is the conventional wisdom but she's got all of us talking about a cluster that is having trouble to the point that they are making high profile lay offs.

>>perjury

Heck if they want to hire someone who's committed perjury just get Bill Clinton. Finneran is a Dem by the way
(though a social conservative IIRC). Varulven! Attacking a fellow Dem!
Bumper sticker I read about: "I'll Hug Your Elephant If You Kiss My Donkey" :)

it isn't the usual procedure, better to keep your mouth shut..

Panago is right, discretion is the better part of valor.

Raccoon, I always vote for the right person, that's why I'm always right.

i voted for Weld, not Silber. My allegiance is to that which improves life in
Massachusetts. Finneran is innocent until proven guilty, however he is not
the kind of talk show host we need in Massachusetts. I'm tired of what I call
"RPBS - Republican PBS or Peter Blute Syndrome...hiring hacks instead of real
talents.

The bigger the hack the bigger the ego; Neanderpaul, DePetro, WBCN's had 'em,
Peter Blute, Howie Carr, Finneran.

Carr can't break out of this market; he plays to his little audience and the shtick is
old.

It takes real talent to find talent. David Lee Roth is not on-air talent.

That's what Corporate America tries to force down our throats.

By the way, Raccoon, the Weld vote was right for the time, but wrong the second
time around. He bolted. Cellucci bolted. Swift begat Romney - what a mess.

Unless Patrick does a bangup job as governor, I'd hope he'd also bolt early for a job in Washington :) Well I'm giving him a chance at least. I do get a kick out of how Romney announced he was NOT running for re-election:
he said emphatically "I love this job!" (So why are you leaving?) In other news he has a bridge in Brooklyn he'd
love to sell ya :)

btw I hope to continue being online here but my health comes first--I need to get off my derriere and get
exercise to control my diabetes. Let's hope our mutual friend Doug Mascott gets better--he's been dealing with the same thing I've had several times, leg infection/cellulitus. Brutal, and could be fatal if not dealt with.
Had I ignored it when I first got in in 1995 I would have been long in the grave by now.

Who is Ellen on Saturdays? I heard her interview Cape Cod defense attorney on Worthington trial Saturday and she sounded like a GENIOUS (more like NPR than RKO)..even the attorney was making jokes about it surreal because she used to interrogite him when she was a Globe reporter...where are they going? smart women (she's a lib like clapprood but with way better voice i say)....or sick, demented politicans on weekdsays? Is Kahn pulling strings? I thought Jason was supposed to be genious, speaking of smarties...............I see the predicted lineup in other blog...Ted&Ellen 6-9 weekdays--Feinberg 9-12--are they firing SCOTTO with the WHOLE NEWS TEAM? People are getting to hung out to dry it's clear--some plan is comign down the pike.

DID ANYONE SEE HERALD RUMOR ABOUT EAGEN BRAUDE-------------ugh.

p.s

i'm kind of new to town and find this blog f-ing amazing, just the dedication to the details. you guyst seem to know your stuff. i know how radio works in L.A. and I worked in it for awhile.
I doubt Kahn is goign to get tossed out--i bet they have plan. i'm not a lefty (even though from left coast) but I can't believe how they can make it work with all men all rightwing? is this recipe has worked before? wasn't there great libertarian host?
