KAJK Longview 99.3 now stunting...

I'm hearing those construction SFX on 99.3 now.. looks like Longview/Tyler is gonna get Jacked very soon...

It's about time East Texas gets a good station, I'm from Dallas and I listen to JACK here, the people that live in the Tyler-Longview area are in for a treat.

Re: KAJK White Oak/Tyler/Longview 99.3 now stunting...

Wonder how long it will be before Reynolds spins the "Wheel of Formats" again?

This will be the third format in (IIRC) as many years he's had that freq.

I think its power is its biggest problem. I had trouble getting it in both Tyler and Longview when I was up last time. I just don't think anything they do will be a great ratings success.

Can't speak for listening to it in Longview, but I was listening to it fine in Tyler this evening.

As far as power being its problem, neither 102-7 nor 106-9 has as much power as 99-3 and yet those two sat on top of the ratings for how long?

Power isn't everything. Sure it helps, but if you give people something they want to listen to, they will tune in even if it takes a tin can and a string.

Well I was listening in the morning, and it was humid, so there might have been some tropo situations going on. I was picking up some Houston stations pretty good that morning, so that could have been the issue.

And, you're right, power is isn't everything. Look at KDOK and its success. I just would love to think what KDOK could do on a bigger signal.

I would like to see what kind of TSL "Jack" stations have. Being I can only see 12+ numbers, I haven't seen what kind of TSL that "Jack/Bob" stations have.

The one thing that I half-way like about this format, is the "wow" factor, because you never know what they're going to play next. BOB-FM 103.5 in Austin, is probably the best one I've heard. Rusty Reynolds normally can work magic with Radio Stations. This one is one of the few he's struggled with. I wish he was able to buy KYKX again, it sure could use the help.

If its a "Jack " format its anything but a treat. Its an in-law that doesn't know when to leave and keeps the refrigerator empty.

This morning on the way to Kilgore, I saw a new Jack-FM billboard on 31 south between Movies 9 and the loop. When I turned to 99.3, they were airing what seemed to be movie audio, but I couldn't identify the movie.

KAJK is Jack (Re: KAJK Longview 99.3 now stunting...)

Jack it will be...www.993jackfm.com is online. It has a link to listen online (didn't work for me) that brings up a page titled "KAJK-FM."

It looks like front page was cloned off an old version of KJKK 100.3 Dallas' site. In the virtual room, there's a bulletin board that includes a Dallas Stars logo on it. KJKK has done some bits at Stars home games, but I'm guessing East Texas isn't NHL or Stars country...

LOL. :D Yeah, last time I was up, I ate at the Outback in Longview, and they had the Stars game on all the bar TV's and everyone seemed to be into it pretty good. They pretty much get into any of the Dallas teams. As a current Houstonian, it bothers me somewhat that they don't mention Houston teams, we're not that far away, and we're still in East Texas. As a Spurs fan, hearing Mavericks news makes me ill these days. And, as a Steeler fan, I've never enjoyed hearing the Cowboy reports. I've always half way liked the Stars and Rangers, so I miss hearing those reports.

Sorry to get off topic, but are the Stars carried by anyone in the Tyler-Longview market? I know you can get WBAP there, but I was wondering if 1490 or even 600 might carry them?

I love the Stars; it seems at times they get lost in the Texas sports world since hockey is still relatively new. The over-the-air Stars-Blues game on KDFI 27 Thursday got a 0.4 rating; the red-hot Mavs have been getting 6.0+ ratings lately. Glad to hear they have some fans in East Texas.

As for the Stars, WBAP is their only radio outlet. KDFI is their only over-the-air TV outlet, with FSN Southwest carrying the rest on cable. All games are simulcast on radio and TV with the exception of any national games on NBC or Versus. I think only one other team in the NHL still does a radio/TV simulcast.

I can understand just keeping WBAP since its going to be able to be heard in all the adjacent radio markets during the day -- and everywhere at night when most games are played. I'm not sure why they don't work on expanding the over-the-air games to other markets. When the team moved here, most markets didn't have a lot of TV stations. With the growth of LPTVs and now digital TV allowing for multicasting new stations, every market has more stations than before. The Mavs games on KTXA 21 in Dallas are carried on stations around the state (MNT KIDZ-LP 42 Abilene, MNT KCPN-LP 33 Amarillo, CW KBTX-DT 50.2 Bryan, MNT KOSA-DT 31.2 Odessa, CW KWTX-DT 53.2 Waco, KYTX-DT 18.2 Tyler, etc.). Rangers similarly will get carried on KYTX-DT 18.2 and others around the state. Seems like they would want to try to clear some games in other markets to build up the fan base outside Dallas.

I like the Stars, but how about that crest in the upper left on the brick wall on the right.... that's what I'm talkin' about! 8)
