KAKC 92.9 1970s

If I recall correctly, the AM/FM simulcast didn't occur until 1974/1975 at night when the FM was in the 'KC93' phase when they weren't playing the automated oldies format.

I remember the Drake-Chenault days, when the big tape reels would be delivered. Very primitive automation compared to today, yet effective for its time.

Isn't that Denver "the Mile High" Foxx doing the automated time-checks?

I believe it was. A cost saving move on the part of Mark-Way broadcasting, certainly less expensive than purchasing from Drake-Chenault.

It's fun going back in the wayback machine.

My family moved to Bartlesville in August of 1974 (my father worked for Phillips Petroleum) and KAKC-FM was still running Drake-Chenault's Oldies format. I really became an oldies lover because of that station.

KC93 started sometime in the Summer of 1976. I dont recall hearing any live DJs on it, it was mostly automated album rock.

Here's a KAKC Solid Gold jingle I copied off of a old tape I made in 1975 - http://www.divshare.com/download/20681683-d6e

If you have any more KAKC, KELi, KTFX (Superfox 103) or any other airchecks of Tulsa radio please post them!
