I found a old list of Kansas AM stations, and it had KAKE 1240 am. What format were they? and how did they do in the market?

From what I've been told, they were a Full Service AC station, at least in 1970's. I believe at one point they were number 1 in the Wichita market in the late 70's. When KAKE radio and TV was sold off in 1980. The TV station kept the KAKE call letters and went to Chronicle Broadcasting. The radio station was sold to a company called MISCO and the call letters were charged to KAKZ. The format changed in late'81 from AC to "Music Of Your Life", and then later back to Ac very shortly before going TALK in '84. That lasted a year when the station was sold, became KRZZ and simulcasted its FM sister station's AC format then later Classic Rock. The station became News Talk KNSS in 1987, and kept that format and calls until it moved to 1330 about a year ago or so. That's the very condensed version of the history. I'm sure others have more information.
