Kaley O'Kelley moves to KTVK

Wow, you have all the scoops this week!

Kaley is good at what she does. In addition to a solid anchor, this also gives KTVK a well-needed extra person with weather experience to fill-in occasionally when the other Forecasters are on vacation or sick.

I look forward to seeing Tess back on the weekends. I've really missed her since I get to watch much more of the weekend shows that the weekday show.
 
I was thisclose to writing back in April, Tess Rafols said she would be on the GMAZ weekdays "for about a month" and I haven't heard about a permanent replacement.

Kaley O'Kelley is an interesting choice. I like her. Plus will this put more pressure on Tara Hitchcock who is on yet another week of vacation? O'Kelley has proven she can do news, weather, and host a daily talk show (Sonoran Living).
 
I was surprised to see O'Kelley on ABC15 this morning doing weather. I thought she might be on vacation until her KTVK start. I wonder will they wish her well on camera? I bet Stephanie Sandoval will on Sonoran Living.

What is Olivia, the KTVK ambassador from another market, working for Belo AND Meredith??!! What does Olivia have to do with any of this??!! Why does she care??!! Oh my God...she really believes that an announcement has to be made from her, because she was just so irreplaceable, that a new girl needs an announcement from her? Needs her blessing?! What is this, the homecoming queen changing-of-the-tiara??

These people have such a ridiculous sense of self-importance...and they are just so vapid and shallow...it's amazing to me. If I were her current News Director in Las Vegas, I would ask her why she cares about her old job. I would tell her to keep her intention on her new job & market.

How 'bout these phony journalists just shut up, go to work & read their teleprompters.

Oh, and good luck, Kaley, trying to get a word in edgewise with Tara Hitchcock runnin' that sinking ship.
 
Well, the nice thing is that Kaley IS the co-host from 4:30am to 6am, because -- god forbid -- that Tara (the ultimate diva) would have to get up that early. Kaley is very competent and, if I were Tara, I would be really watching my back right about now. Tara had NOTHING to worry about with Olivia or Tess, but I predict that Kaley will eventually take her job.

Plus, if Royal ever retires, Kaley would be a great choice for Chief Met. Kaley is SO much more talented than Tara.

Olivia has a personal Facebook page and a "fan" page. Her announcement regarding Kaley was on her FAN page. With over 700 fans, many of them indicate they are from Phoenix and many of the replies she gets on her posts are from those Phoenix fans.
Olivia meerly pointed out a story on Examiner.com regarding the O'Kelley move, something I did not see from Belo or Scripps.
 
That is awesome news, I love Kaley and even when she has filled in on good morning america she has been good. Great choice indeed.
 
On 19 August, Tess Rafols was off. Scott Pasmore and Javier Soto did the 4:30 to 5 segment. Then to my surprise, Tara Hitchcock joined Pasmore at 5:00! They also mentioned how Hitchcock "stayed late" on 18 August to do Good Day Arizona. I wonder if Tara is stepping up her game knowing that Kaley is coming?

Two other things. A few weeks ago, April Warnecke was sick. Tess and Scott had to do the weather. When Tara came on a 6:00, she said how the anchors had to do the weather because someone didn't want to get up at 4:30 to come in and do it. Also, Tara did anchor GMAZ Sunday when Carey Pena was on vacation. So she is a little flexible.
 
It's probably both Kaley and the sad state of the economy. Tara is seeing how "senior" anchors are more and more expendible in these times. So, she's stepping up to the plate. But she makes so many unprofessional comments...like someone not wanting to get up at 4am to do the weather. Who was supposed to just get up? Royal did the weather the evening before and Brittany does deserve a couple of days off during the week.

The nice thing is, when Kaley gets there, she can also do the weather (when needed). I really wonder how Kaley and Tara will get along. I can't wait for Scott's first vacation!!! Can anyone say "CATFIGHT"???
 
I was very hesitant in writing those comments. It was a few weeks ago and I don't want to mis-quote Tara Hitchcock. I was running late leaving the house so I didn't have time to type it then. I can't get to website at work because it's blocked.

I feel confident that Tara said that. I assume she was talking about Brittney Shipp.
 
I totally understand but it sounds like a typical "Tara" comment. Knowing Tara, she probably even over-emphasized the word "someone". All I can say is that Kaley will be Tara's correct change and potentially not as subservient as Olivia or Tess. Kaley is fully capable of taking over the entire GMAZ show and I believe that Tara understands that (hence her reasonable actions over the past few weeks -- coming in at 5am and on Sunday, etc.).

I'm not a big fan of Tara but in her defense, I heard it mentioned that when she negotiated her last contract renewal, Tara did not ask for more money but wanted to adjust her hours (more time to spent with her family) so that she started at 6am rather than 5am (the renewal was before GMAZ moved the start to 4:30am) and that she would not have to stay to do GDAZ at 11am (other than requests for her to help cover openings caused by vacation or illness of others on the crew).

I agree with you that Kaley is very capable of taking over many of the positions held by "old timers" on GMAZ with ease.
 
I, too, remember the results of the contract negotiations. Actually, it's probably a good thing overall that she negotiated her contract that way. It's kept 3 anchors employed on GMAZ!! Otherwise, management probably would have cut the third anchor person (Olivia and soon-to-be Kaley).

Belo-owned KING in Seattle does the 4:30am to 9am show with only 2 anchors.
 
Tara's contract was re-negotiated this past December when the new ND started.
Secret underwear played a part, and suffice it to say that she's not going anywhere while he's around.

No, I'm talking about Tara Hitchcock. The first thing the new News Director, Brad Remington, did when he started at KTVK this past December is re-sign Tara.

He thinks she's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::)

You've got to be kidding me! The local news in this market is dreadful. I wish everyone here could see a Seattle (similar-sized market) newscast. Seattle news is much more serious, news-based (not personality-driven), and much more intelligent. Even Q13 (the FOX affiliate) is solid, compared to the trash that passes for news here.

But landtuna's been trying to warn me...

That's good for Tara, but does she really cover openings? I missed most of the 21 August GMAZ but I don't think she was there. She would rather have Pasmore do the news alone than coming in early. She has said on camera there is "no way" she could come in at 4:30 every day. I think she does the full 4 1/2 hours during their Christmas mall shows.
