KAMD K-97?

Is this radio station AC or hot AC? One website tells me one thing and another tells me something else. What is their playlist like?

They are an AC station. I would compare them to your typical "Sunny" or "Lite" station.

Half dozen one or the other. A/C, Lite A/C, Hot A/C---its all radio comfort food (like Country, and Classic Rock). Of course "K-97" competes with KMRX 96.1 "Mix 96" from El Dorado for the audience in Eldo/Camden/Magnolia. K-97 has been around for years (since at least I was in school) with a decent signal, but often a frequent "DX pest".

I took a quick listen today of KAMD-FM and their music playlist reminds me somewhat of small town Arkansas version of WHOM-FM in New Hampshire ('HOM is a very good A/C, much better playlist IMHO than KURB in LR despite the common ownership--Citadel) that I sampled while vacationing last year.

The old KVMA-FM (Magnolia) on 107.9 used to have a strong signal and often reached over to SE Arkansas occasionally.

Radio is the pits in this part of Arkansas. Its the Warren-Monticello bunch (KWRF/KHBM/KGPQ) all of the bird, relayers of Stuttgart stations in Dumas/Gould, KVSA, Coats Media (KQEW/KBJT) and the ruins of the Pine Bluff market.

oh but the money they save by not having local talent!!!!! the listeners will never know any better. one of the reasons i left radio...it's not local anymore. radio station owners...for the most part....are the least knowledgeable people about radio on the planet.

even in berryville...close to where i live now....they do have local talent on the air...if you wanna call it that. it's by far one of the worst programmed stations i've ever heard. seague from music straight to commercial and right back into music...with no buffer whatsoever. guy in the evenings is pretty good. but up until then....geez...

maybe i'm just turning into a grouchy old programmer....maybe its a good thing i'm not in radio anymore....maybe i should just shut up.

Being grouchy is NOT mandatory, however. Just enjoy the ride. And the memories.

yeah welcome to the club. Here in Northwest Arkansas, we have badly programed stations. Programing is awful with no creativity. part of the problem here is , there is no reason to improve. Everyone including listeners are satisfied with sub par programing. That's the way it goes I guess.

But hasn't it always been something close to that? Back in 1961 I was full of piss-and-vinegar and I got a chance to leave Arkansas and join a station that was doing something far above "sub par programming". And that spoiled me. And when it got harder and harder to find a station doing good programming (and business practice) that would accept my sub-par abilities, I turned to other lines of work. It was always my intention to return to the industry (an hopefully to Arkansas) when I had enough capital that I could decide what was par and sub-par. And here I am talking about it instead of doing it.

So don't be too hard on the folks who are today "doing it in Arkansas"... or anywhere else for that matter. In other parts of the country we don't have to ask you to explain what you mean by sub par programming. We have it, too. And maybe we are getting what we deserve because we never got around to showering our support on stations when they rose above sub par even temporarily.
