KAMM 1540 University Park

We should be seeing an STA Extension filing from KAMM as soon as the FCC is fully reopened. Curious if NTRG will reveal any progress on a permanent transmitter site for 1540.

We should be seeing an STA Extension filing from KAMM as soon as the FCC is fully reopened. Curious if NTRG will reveal any progress on a permanent transmitter site for 1540.
STA extension filed today. Relevant section:

NTRG has been diligently searching for a new site to relocate the directional antenna system required to relicense this facility. At the time that the previous extension of this was granted, NTRG was in the process of negotiating a sub lease of part of the Elm Fork Gun Range. After coming to preliminary terms with the gun range, the City of Dallas informed NTRG that they could not sublease at the gun range because it was parkland. This is after the City of Dallas suggested that NTRG go to the gun range for a sublease!

Mr. Witkovski has spent much of the last year caring for his elderly wife. She passed away during this last extension period. This event stopped all efforts to find a new site.

The present plan is to revisit the City of Dallas and to contact the City Manager and City Council to get the small amount of land need reclassified as not park land. Also NTRG plans on contacting the owners of another AM station it had previously spoken with about a diplex or diplex and adding a tower project.

NTRG has been diligent in operating the facility and will continue to pursue other options.”

Another STA extension filed for KAMM today. Can continues to be kicked down the road.

I could weakly hear KAMM near Loop 12 and Midway Road in North Dallas on my most recent visit last week, but the 1650 pirate in McKinney actually had a stronger signal.😳🤣

From the filing:

North Texas Radio Group, LP (“NTRG”) submits this instant application to extend the existing special temporary authority to operate this facility at reduced power until a suitable site has been found to relocate the multi tower directional array required to return the facility to operation. The previous owner sold the land where the licensed facility was located to speculators and demolished the site in December of 2021. As of the present day the site where the licensed facility was located is vacant with apparently no imminent use or development. NTRG closed on this facility on 5-10-23 and was able to get the temporary site authorized in the original STA operational by 7-20-2023. At that time a resumption of operation was filed with the Commission. NTRG has been diligently searching for a new site to relocate the directional antenna system required to relicense this facility. Previously NTRG was in the process of negotiating a sub lease of part of the Elm Fork Gun Range. After coming to preliminary terms with the gun range, the City of Dallas informed NTRG that they could not sublease at the gun range because it was parkland. This is after the City of Dallas had indeed suggested that NTRG go to the gun range for a sublease!
Mr. Witkovski has spent much of the last year caring for his elderly wife. She passed away during the previous extension period. This unfortunate event has very much slowed efforts to find a new site.
RECENT EFFORTS:
Presently NTRG is searching for a suitable representative to represent its interest with the City of Dallas who would be better equipped to represent it with the City Manager and City Council to get the small amount of land need reclassified as not park land. NTRG also contacted the owners of another AM station it had previously spoken with about a diplex or diplex and adding a tower as a potential for a permanent site. NTRG learned that this owner was not interested in a diplex agreement as they are in the process of transferring the ownership to another owner. Nothing has been filed on this transfer to a new owner as of the date of this extension request, but NTRG intends to contact that proposed assignee once an application has been filed with the Commission.
NTRG has been diligent in continually operating the facility and will continue to pursue other options.”

Sorry to hear about her death. Dick Witkowski lived for several years in Puerto RIco around 1985-1986 when he was involved with some legal proceedings in Texas. I sold him nearly all the older AM and FM transmitter gear and studio equipment from WJIT and WJIT-FM in San Juan when I rebuilt them as WQII and WSRA (Later WZNT). He sold all of it to several stations in Santo Domingo where they restored them and "made them look like new".

More like “kicking the KAMM down the road”!
I have no idea of how old Dick Witkowski is, but it appears he has been in and around the radio business for a long time. You would think things would get to the point where he would ask himself “Why am I still doing this?”

Is there a point to trying to save the 1540 license? Any chance of success? What is the endgame?
