KAMP FM

Did his 'Last Call' show on NBC get canned?
He's still plans on doing both...any truth to this rumor about Brian McKnight doing late nights/weekends on AMP?

Interesting selection to go head to head with Ryan Seacrest. I figured since it had been nearly a year without a morning host, mornings would stay empty. Frankly, I count on the limited chatter on AMP and 98.7 to get me to work when I'm sick of my iPod.

Is AMP still beating KIIS in morning drive, 18 to 34?

I believe that only happened in one book, back in Summer... I tried to find the article on AllAccess, but can't, so I'm unable to tell you which month that was.

Amazing choice made by AMP. I loved his delivery as the host of TRL. But I have a good feeling that Daly's morning show will involve way less talking than Seacrest's show.

If this IS going to be a morning zoo like show, I wonder why KAMP just didn't give Booker the morning gig? He's been a morning host in two markets, and had another talk show on WFNY. (I'm on a roll now) For that matter, why did they even bring him to be on AMP when the station he worked for in NY flipped to top 40 as well?

It's about image and competition. Before AMP, there was a good chance that a very little percentage of listeners knew who Booker was. Most of his radio experience resides in New York, and since LA is the #2 market in the United States and AMP is trying to beat out KIIS in most sectors, they would want someone that the public is able to recognize and a notible name to recognize. If Booker had taken over the morning slot, there would be no attraction factor, no BIG NAME taking over the slot, espcially in competition to Ryan Seacrest. Carson Daly is not only a well known pop culture figure but the female target demo 18-34 most likely remembered Carson from doing TRL, and the attraction factor from the viewers of his show Last Call, similar to Seacrest. Maybe this is the reason why Seacrest is doing so well with his show, matching the name to the product. In my personal opinion, only someone like Carson would be able to match what Seacrest has going for him. AMP was waiting all this time for a big name talent to take over mornings, and the got the right guy. Weatherly knows mornings are no jokes, so he knows that Carson will bring in a crowd.

Thank you for telling me...the move is great, but I was still scratching my head. I wonder if CBS will bring in anyone for WXRK in the mornings? Or, would CBS want to bring in anyone to work on weekends on KAMP?

This is really huge. I bet you start to see AMP seriously take apart KIIS.
The Amp audience will love Carson and they already play a way better mix
than KIIS thanks to Weatherly. I think Ryan has 2 years left on his current contract.
By that time I truly think Amp will be ahead of them consistently. If Ryan then takes a break,
Amp will OWN LA for many. many years to come.

A lot of posters rip corporate radio and with good reason. But CBS did a great job here. I'm sure they
paid Carson good money and that will translate to success. It's good for our industry to see this happen.
As someone wrote earlier, CBS is looking to have a good 2010. Good for them. They gave me my first radio job
15 years ago. As a matter of fact I've worked for both CBS and Clear Channel for many years. It has been tough
these last few years. I really look at this as a company investing in it's product......again......finally.

Hopefully this will show that CBS "had" to make those changes (layoffs), but didn't want to do it and now they are back to
doing business the old way. With talent and patience. Okay, I'm starting to dream a bit here. LOL

Now there's some possible hope to believe in. Merry Christmas!

Roger Wilco, over and out.

AMP is already shreading up KIIS, KPWR and KXOL. Carson will finish up some more unfinished business in the mornings. When I'm listening to AMP in the mornings at times, personality is what that time slot is lacking, but not someone too chatty like Ryan Seacrest. What AMP wants to do in this situation is to virtually embed Carson between the music and only talk about the stuff the people want to hear (news, entertainment). The factor that can make or break Carson is the "boring factor" that Seacrest possesses. If Carson can keep the show AMP'd up and with music rolling there's a possibility that AMP could score higher than KIIS in mornings in their target demo. Weatherly, I'm sure, will produce a class act morning show with Daly.

Amp has had an effect on KIIS, to be sure. It has pealed about 20% of KIIS's AQH levels away, but not its cume. It has had no effect on Power, which is at its pre-Amp levels in 18-34. KXOL has also stayed at the same 18-34 level all this year, despite having nuked its airstaff and morning show and promotional efforts.

Carson will finish up some more unfinished business in the mornings.

His addition should actually release some listeners taken from KSSE and Spanish language stations, and make Amp even less appealing to the KPWR audience.

The target of KIIS is women 18-34. There is nothing bigger than Ryan in that demo.

There's a good chance that Carson will be jocking in the morning (while adding news), and not doing a full blown morning talk show similar to Seacrest. AMP knows that their brand revolves around the amount of music they play. Saying that Power/Spanish listeners are going to stop listening because they added a jock in the morning is contradictory to the fact that they have jocks in all other day parts during weekdays.

What I think is funny about AMP is that all their on-air talents jocked at Alternative stations (either KROQ or K-Rock)...None of them except for Booker (after his Q102 days) had experience in Top 40 radio but they fit perfectly with the Top 40 format.

:D Hehehe, I was just thinking the same thing...I mean, come on...McCabe-KROQ, Stryker-KROQ, Booker-K-Rock NY, now Carson?!? I know it doesn't matter, but this just seems odd to me. They should've just picked Dave Koz or Jed The Fish...

The few times I have listened to Seacrest on KIIS it has not been what I would call a full blown moning talk show. How many songs a hour does he play?

Around 6 per hour, while AMP plays around 14 per hour.
It used to be way less, somewhere around 4 or 5 before KIIS started pushing him to play more music when AMP came around.

Anyone else find it odd that KAMP consists entirely of jocks who are thirtysomething white men? On a top 40 station in Los Angeles???! What gives? Strangely, even KROQ's jocks include two women -- one of whom is Latina. KROQ looks more like L.A. than KAMP does!

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. It shows the genius of Kevin Weatherly, who lets/tells the jocks to shut up and play the music. Its appropriate for the presentation.

Wow, that should be alot of talk. Carson on AMP is the biggest thing that has happened to radio in a while. He should be able to do a funnier show than Seacrest, but more popular among the target demo? Probably not.

Carson on Amp totally undermines my theory that AMP and NOW were to be the JACK FM of CHR. Boy was I wrong.

I remember saying this way back when AMP Radio started that Carson Daily would be morning dj. Dang I was right. I wonder if Carson was asked would he rather do LA AMP or NY NOW. But his late night show on NBC is from LA isn't it?
