KAMP HD 2

Sophie in SD sounded really good until Charese Fruge became the PD. Then it just sounded like an exact replica of Star 98.7 before it flipped to Alternative. But at least having Sophie on 97.1 HD-2 is better than having a simulcast of KFRG. I wouldn't be surprised if Sophie in SD flipped to AMP, with Channel 933 #2 overall in San Diego and Blazin' 98.9 flipping to ESPN Radio, it would be the perfect time. The rumor's been going on the SD Boards for months now

So SF gets a new dance station on hd2. Why couldn't we get the same for AMP hd2. This suck, like we need another Myfm on HD2. This pisses me off. Come on CBS radio. We dont need a SD station on LA radio. We need a dance station. Pride radio isn't cutting it.

i thought i noticed some changes in the music today on amp radio... wonder if we are undgoing a mild retool ahead of a san diego launch

According to the HD web site, 103.1 HD-2 plays Dance. But since I have real difficulty getting 103.1 in analog, I cannot confirm it.

Being on HD-2 here is like being on a 250-watt AM station in Corona. It'll be heard by tens of people. The problem isn't really what's on HD as much as it is with HD itself. It's awful technology coming too late to the radio game, I fear.

wow, you think it would be as good as a 250 watt corona station? i was going to say more like a half watt translator on the top of a 2 story office building..

i can't believe the radio industry thought this was going to help their problems. i personally find it an insult. a 48kbps datastream with a incredibly weak signal which is transmitted on top of other stations.... come on people.

if this is what they think the future of radio is, they might was well sign it all off....

how about a 192kbps audio stream or mulitple streams... on their own rf channel (not having people transmit on top of each other), and giving them a decent power level. and finally -- how about having 2 transmitter sites, so if your radio cant see one it will automatically switch to the other one seemlessly. maybe the people at apple were designing the hd system to make certain that radio would die.

The FCC hasn't allowed stations to broadcast their HD signals at a power level above 1% of their analog signal strength, which is one big reason why HD reception is so bad. It's not like stations can just jack up their transmitter power (analog or digital) without asking for permission -- nor can they just install new transmitters all over the place without getting approval from the FCC.

understood, i was proposing a full system redesign. one with rf spectrum that isnt already occupied by other fm stations. also using a much higher data rate and a much better codec. also, they should have a way to install new codecs to the radio as new software becomes available. all of this could have been done on the first try, but thanks to ibiquity and all the corrupt radio inbreeding we end up with this flaming pile of technological garbage.

oh yeah, also give them some real power levels...

also, the last thing you would want is everyone cranking up their power levels.. which i suspect is the solution they are going to propose. what we will end up with is more interference. oh dear, i just need to pull the hd receiver out of my car and give up on radio as hard as it is to do... they have done it to themselves
