KANE to replace MJ on FLZ mornings

Good choice C.C. Will Kane continue the Aft. drive show on 933 also?
93.3 KANE-FM has a nice ring to it.

I sense that some shifting at FLZ will take place. Any suggestions for Kane's replacement. Assuming its C.C it would probaly be someone VT'ed from another major market. Or Ryan Seacrest like C.C does with XL 106 in Orlando.

It would only make sense for Kane to give up afternoons on WFLZ. That way, when he's done with his big-market morning show, he can be able to voicetrack smaller markets in afternoon drive.

It was posted yesterday on the trades that they are now in search of a Live & local jock for afternoons... the search is on!

I would hope FLZ has someone live and local in afternoon drive. With the station being a heritage CHR, it would be a shame not to do this, especially since the morning show will be piped in from D.C. (I assume).

I wonder if MJ's "decision" was totally voluntary. CC forced out Jim Krenn in Pittsburgh, who was a fixture for 20+ years and pulling down big $$.... this might have been more about a budget cut than anything else. At least MJ could spin it as a lifestyle decision.

What spin?

I don't think there is any type of nefarious decision behind this.

As it's said, "sometimes a cigar, is just a cigar."

Will Kane's show be a simulcast of his DC show? Or will he track a custom one for WFLZ? Either way, I hope that Hot promotes the heck out of the fact that their morning show is live and local and WFLZ's is not (well, it might end up being live, but it won't be local).

I said the following in another post, but I guess it was over-looked. I'll copy it here:

Once again people... the core listener DOES NOT CARE if they are local. People just want entertainment. Its 2012, not quite the dawn of automation. Kane has been tracked in afternoons for years now. He was #1 in the core demos. Can we move on from the "gad-nabit, those damn voice trackers" attitude? Evolve with the industry. Or don't.

I disagree. Listners don't know that the garbage they are being force-fed is garbage. If HOT does a better job of infotaining the audience with live and local perspective, they will win. Kane is awell known commodity and FLZ is heritage so there is a chance but heritage can be toppled.

Goober you are wrong. They do want LOCAL especially in the mornings

I am NOT wrong. Look at ratings and research around the country. In TODAYS radio, the climate has changed. And its PROVEN around the country that CONTENT WINS. Now, there are exceptions to this nowadays in small to very small markets where the sample is lower.

FLZ's core female demo of 18-34 and persons 18-34 does NOT care. Do some research.

The show won't be successful if they don't talk about the local high school? These shows that are syndicated in have allotted time for LOCAL breaks... which they all do. And being that Kane has lived and worked in this market for years before being piped into here... it will be that much more relatable.

Oh yea, Kidd Kraddick is syndicated in near triple digit markets and is successful in about 90% of them so far. Ya think he or Kane or Elvis Duran or any other syndicated morning show wouldn't be successful if they aren't already working in other markets because of CONTENT appeal? Its the content that wins. Not the local content. Even in a local morning show, only about 10% of the content is really local anyway. I listened to the morning show on HOT this morning for about 2 1/2 hrs. I heard MAYBE 3 breaks mentioning something within this market. The rest... content!!

There are always exceptions to the rule, but in this case especially... you are wrong.

Sounds like the dreaded "Programming Consultant" pushing syndicated shows, or the corporate "Bean Counter" pushing for a reduction of local payroll.

If the show is good enough it doesn't matter. No one outside of the NY metro ever cared that Howard Stern wasn't local.
and, how many Howard Sterns are there?

That was not the point of my post. Is Kane's new WFLZ morning show going to be a simulcast of his Hot 99.5/DC show? If so, then the new morning show will essentially be the same the Elvis Duran show that is on Clear Channel stations all over the country.

I am over 60 and listen mostly to Q105 because it sounds like radio I grew up with. Although my daughter in her thirties grew up with WRVQ which was then live and local, she now flips between Hot, Mix, Magic,FLZ, The Beat, and WLLD and I'm sure has no interest in who is local or not except maybe Orlando on WLLD.
