Kansas City radio host Kevin Kietzman is under fire following comments made about Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who has endured personal turmoil in recent years.

Discussing the Tyreek Hill situation, which is currently an inactive criminal investigation, the Sports Radio 810 WHB host appeared to criticize Reid’s abilities as a disciplinarian, bringing up his son Garrett, who died of a heroin overdose in 2012, in the process.

“The thing is, they probably think they can fix him, but they thought they could fix him before and they failed. Andy Reid does not have a great record of fixing players. He doesn’t. Discipline is not his thing,” Kietzman said Monday. “It did not work out particularly well in his family life, and that needs to be added to this, as we’re talking about the Chiefs. He wasn’t real great at that either. He’s had a lot of things go bad on him, family and players.”

He continued, “He is not good at fixing people, he is not good at discipline. That is not his strength. His strength is designing football plays. To be honest, Andy Reid’s greatest strength is designing football offenses and plays. That’s his greatest strength. Players like him, sure, he’s a leader, I’m not saying he’s not a leader, his greatest strength is designing football plays. And that’s gotten him a long way, but that doesn’t mean he’s qualified to discipline players, or help them, or change them, or make them better.”

And now WHB Radio has removed Kevin Kietzman over his rants.

After being pulled off the air following comments about Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid’s dead son, Union Broadcasting’s 810 WHB Kansas City has parted ways with host Kevin Kietzman.

Complicating matters was that Kietzman was a partner in the company. He held a 6% stake in Union Broadcasting and served as Sports Director in addition to hosting the afternoon “Between The Lines” show. He spent ten years at “Fox 4” WDAF-TV as a reporter and sports anchor before moving over to radio.

Kevin was an institution on KC sports radio for many years and he had a habit of occasional controversial rants during the monologue portion of his afternoon drive time show. I listened to him for years and most of time his on-air work was fine but earlier this week, he crossed the line with a rant about Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid that was pointless, tasteless and quite frankly, stupid. Andy is a beloved figure in KC now after the success of last year's team that was one offsides penalty away from a trip to the Super Bowl. Union Broadcasting had to respond to overwhelming public opinion and, they did. As a sports radio host I found Kevin to be insightful and interesting but he often treated callers with condescension. Regardless, his show had great ratings in the KC market.
