Kansas stations controlled by NRG/Waitt

What's the story on the stations in Kansas that are licensed to either NRG and/or Waitt Radio? Rumor has it that the Steckline family is in the process of buying them and then possibly spinning a few of them off.

IF a sale happens, it would be more of a matter of buying them back...

Larry Steckline sold these stations in 1997 to Goodstar Broadcasting, which unloaded them to Waitt in 2001 after it essentially collapsed. Waitt then merged with NRG.

If a sale were to happen (and the question also is would Larry or Greg buy them), I would anticipate the potential for a couple of spin offs. Keep in mind there were a lot of operators who were interested in some stations but not all when Larry sold them in 97. I would expect at a minimum if the Steckline's did buy them back they would keep Pratt, Colby and Dodge City at a minimum which would give them back the three big AM outlets. I would expect a spinoff of the two Salina stations, possibly to Eagle (NRG and Eagle operate jointly their stations in Salina now).

Larry Steckline selling those stations was probably one of the better things to happen to radio in Kansas.

Greg Steckline purchasing those stations will be one of the worst things to happen to radio on Kansas.

Ape.

It should be noted though that at least one town might welcome Steckline in light of their experiences with Goodstar in particular.

If Greg buys, I wonder how many of NRG's employees will leave or be asked to. (I expect the latter to be concentrated in certain locations)

steckline is bragging that he is buying the NRG/Waitt stations, has anyone heard anything new? Remuor all over but can you believe steckline? Rumor is that he has out of state investors. They must not know him! ;)
