KANW Expansion

Today proved a good day for KANW's future plans.

1. The FCC granted a modification for KANW's new Española outlet on 91.1. The station jumped from C3 to C2, now at 17kw ERP with a 60dBu contour fully covering Santa Fe.

2. The FCC granted a modification for KEDP , Las Vegas to run 5kw ERP directional. While retrograding to Class A status , KEDP will still have sufficient coverage.

I assume there's some sort of buildout with a second audio service.

The Española station will displace their translator K216GQ which airs the KANW HD2 news/talk/information format. Since the new station will cover Santa Fe that format might be broadcast there. But if they believe Española is too far from KANW 89.1 they could move the translator farther north on a different frequency. Additionally, the satellites KANR Santa Rosa is also upgrading from 100 watts to 2kW and translator K296EP is upgrading from 49 watts at 107.1 to 250 watts at 106.9. KGGA 88.1 Gallup is upgrading from a class A to a C3 at 1.2kW. Plus, they also have another CP to build a new class A station at 89.5 Jarales which will rimshot Socorro. It remains to be seen if they will expand their second audio service or add any new services. The recent addition of KXNM 88.7 Encino could also switch to the secondary news/talk format if they acquire the license which nothing has been filed yet. They seem to have lot going on right now.
