Karel Cancelled By Energy 92.7

According to a post on his own website, Karel has been dropped from Energy 92.7's schedule:

Energy 92.7 has decided to not carry the Karel Show any longer. The reasons stated were financial reasons and the fact that it’s a new show and so as ratings tend to do they drop off at first and then rebuild. The building process isn’t happening fast enough for management so the money men (and women) said, stop.

The show will continue on KRXA/540 in Monterey.

Energy 92.7

how is this station...doing ?
as in #'s or, just based on 'real' reputation.....

every market has it - a station that may not draw the
numbers, but is just popular-in certain settings, just
curious - - the website seems slick!

Cool, I hated that show anyway. I listen to Energy online quite a bit, and it seems like everytime I had a chance to listen, it was either that show or Fernando and Greg's morning show, so I never got to hear music at the times I could listen. I never understood why they would put an all talk show on in the evening at a dance station anyway. Seemed like a stupid move, plus I'm sure he was costly. They need to stick to a music intensive approach with the dance format. Anyway, I don't think Energy sounds as good overall since they switched PD's last year. The imaging certainly isn't as good. But this is a move back in the right direction though.

It's 39th with a 0.6 12+ for a loooong time. Billings are around $3 million a year, and they paid $30 million for the station.

I'm guessing that the cash flow, before interest and taxes (EBITDA) is way south of $1 million, for a conversion of less than 30%.

You could make more with AAA corporate bonds, which means that it is not proving to be a good investment. On the other hand, what else can you do with a signal like that in such a huge MSA?

$30 million? I thought they'd paid $3 million for it. Gosh, who in their right minds would pay $30M for a hemmed-in Class A? That didn't even make sense during the boom years.

David's figures are correct. As the CEO of Flying Bear commented to me, "I bought a job for life." OTOH, when it rains, you can't hear 92.1 on Mt. Diablo Blvd, from a site where you can actually SEE the tower! They can't trim a tree next to the tower, and the water on the leaves interferes. Add in grazing livestock on the hill...now THAT's big time radio!

Well, Joe Bayliss grew up in a radio family, so what the heck, he has his dream job. I've heard one source say he is the sole owner and another say that there are 3 major owners. Regardless, the place apparently throws off cash, which is something Ron Cowan couldn't do for the 15 or so years he owned 92.7.

Oh? I haven't heard 92.1 since the new tower, but I remember that in the past it had a very good signal up and down the Diablo Valley. And it also hits some affluence, too.

Listen tomorrow (Thurs.) at 3 PM and find out.

Say goodbye to Fern and Greg tomorrow morning.

Say goodbye to Joey this afternoon.

Say Hi to Trevor at whatever club you find him DJ'ing in...

didn't ed stoltz buy 92.7 recently??? or did he just buy the intellectual property?
