If you're at KGO and there is an important story [....]
On the other hand if you're at Metro [....]
Regardless of whether the news person is from KGO or Metro, some of the intros are embarrassing to the news person and to those of us listening. This is especially bad when the host is joking around and the lead story in the newscast is a downer. (I'd suggest to KGO and Metro news people reading this that it might be a good idea to lead with a neutral story rather than a downer such as a car crash or a fire, just in case the host is jocular.)
John then took the time to call Jackson Ivey at his home and has looked into the possibility of bringing him into the KGO newsroom directly
That's a very nice gesture, and I'd look forward to hearing him again. He's very good. I also wish Kim McAllister would be able to get more KGO (versus Metro) duties. She's an excellent writer and reporter.
Back to Karel I just read the allaccess.com story and heard the tape. It sounds like he believes that he is industructable and can do anything he wants.
Will he self distruct? Your thoughts?

I'm of three minds on Karel.
First, personally I hate his show. I hate the chip on his shoulder, the me-me-meism, etc. Vote 1 against.
Second, when he's talking about something he knows thoroughly he's excellent. When he talks about growing up in Long Beach and living in the 'hood, and eating out of dumpsters, and living in a car and whatnot, that is priceless radio. But it is
only this kind of subject matter where he can hold his own. Vote 1 for.
Third, when he's doing a subject he knows nothing about he's horrible. The less he knows the more he interrupts the guest. Vote 1 against.
Fourth, I think KGO needs a "Karel-type" in order to balance out the schedule. And he has his fans. Vote 1 for. You won't catch me listening to him, but I'm happy a Karel-type is there. I wish it wasn't Karel, though. There are plenty of people who sound like loose canons who aren't. Hell, I'm that way myself. The audience doesn't have to know that.
So, on my personal tally that's 2 votes for Karel and 2 against.
As you say, he comes across as if he's indestructible. In the early years we dealt with his emotional problems. Now we're dealing with his bravado. Not nice. It was better when he was putting his emotional laundry out on the air and he was near-meltdown. At least that gave us some good listens.
I'm not a Laura Schlessinger fan, either, but you can bet that when she was near meltdown after Bill Ballance posted the naked photos of her on the Web, I listened to her every day for a couple weeks.
Will he self-destruct? No, I doubt it. He'll learn his lesson and check his obscenities and profanities at the door. He values the KGO job too much. Will KGO put up with him anymore? Now
that is the real question.
