Karen Carson no longer on KOST middays

Looks like KOST might get another midday host hopefully local but I doubt it probally another VT jock from NYC or Chicago. Karen Carson who was doing middays via VT from New York's WLTW Lite 106.7 is no longer with the company. Shes now doing middays at crosstown CBS WWFS Fresh 102.7 FM in New York.

Big question what will KOST do hire a new jock or give the shift to weekend jocks Ted or Christine?

Heard they're looking for another tracker. Ted & Christine will probably fill in until they find someone. I think KOST is union, so the question is, how the heck did the union let it happen at all? If tracking has to be done, why don't they use KOST talent to send to smaller markets? Seems weird to track on a station with KOST's stature...

Budget cuts to CC from 2008-2010 caused the VT for KOST. A few CC stations in LA have VT. Lisa and Tony from Hot 92.3 are not local. It kinda makes you wonder if you wanna grow up you want to be a radio dj? The future doesnt look too good

It's all so backward. The weird thing is that becoming a radio talent is just as backward now. In the past you went to small markets and worked your way up. Now, you can start in a major market if you can find an opening. It's all so obvious too. You hear so many rookie mistakes on the air now in the top ten markets. Voice tracking is NOT making radio better, just making it less expensive for the companies that own stations to run them and make even more profit. Now you can work at a station that bills 40, 50 or 60 million dollars annually that is run on a shoestring budget as if they were broke. And I guess they may be. CC's debt is in the billions, and its all because someone got greedy. Greed is the only answer as to why you would merge with others companies and take on the debt that couldn't be paid down by the old company and as we're finding out, can't be paid down by the new company either. At some point CC will have to start selling off chunks of the company, it seems inevitable to me...

And think of all the lost jobs, just because someone wanted a bigger piece of the pie. These CEO's and owners are exactly like the robber barons of a hundred fifty years ago.

Well said, calguy. And, everybody thought our company and not yours was the one going under first or being sold off piece-by-piece to the highest bidder. I just read about further changes happening within your company on March 31st. Once the old family is gone from the Texas management team, what then? I would strongly suggest the financial guys begin looking for some serious buyers for a few of those good signals. Billions of dollars in debt doesn't go away overnight.

Regarding the tracking issue, at least we have a programmer over here who is steadfast in NOT allowing that to happen during any of the measured day parts. However, PPM numbers aren't everything to consider. How about the substantial revenue that can be generated by a live and local host that connects with the audience and does appealing commercial endorsements and public appearances? Advertisers today are looking for that added value and some gravy on the meat. You simply can't get that with out-of-town trackers. I don't care who they are.

And, DToTheJ, are you serious about Donny Osmond? You really want to go there? Maybe you can hear the laughter coming all the way from Wilshire Boulevard.

I'm guessing you work for CBS. I do not work for CC, but I know people there. Yes CBS does not VT as much, but it's still done overnights at both KRTH and KTWV. I believe KRTH is live overnight weekends, but I'm not 100% on that.

What companies like CC that keep cutting don't seem to understand is that they're killing themselves in the long run because they are actually weakening their stations by being so cheap. Radio was always like a magic act, misdirection and lots of smoke, but at least in the old days it was used to good effect. Now it's to try to hide a station's deficiency. Great example, when someone big dies or there's another huge news event, but with so many VT'd shows, there's not much you can do to cover the story. This happened all over the nation when Michael Jackson died.

Let's not forget that this prolonged recession, arguably the worst since the Great Depression, has had a terrible impact on lots of companies in every industry. I gotta figure the growth of VT was a by product of this recession. My question is when the economy truly turns around and radio companies can afford more local talent again, will they actually hire more of such talent?

CC started the VT thing at least a decade ago. It was not recession related. It was a company desperate to pay down their debt and increase profits by reducing manpower and man did they reduce their workforce.
