Karen

Posted with permission of Christi Brooks:

Hey gang,

I got a call from Karen's mom this morning. She's in the hospital with a blood clot in her leg. She fell out of her wheelchair yesterday and thank goodness she did or they wouldn't have found the clot. They are doing some scans today to check her out because she has been slurring her speech for a few days and her mom said hasn't really been well for awhile.

I know a lot of us get annoyed by her calls sometime but those daily calls mean something in her brain. I know it means a lot to her parents each year when Pat gets the birthday card and we all sign it for her. It's almost like she's a legend radio listener in this town.

Her mom is going to keep me posted on her progress and I will do the same with y'all.

Please pass this on to anyone else in Houston radio that may be interested in hearing about Karen.

Thanks,
Christi

P.S. I don't post on the Houston Radio Board but those of you that participate there I know a lot of other Houston DJs and past DJs go there, can you post?

Thanks.

We should get her hospital phone number and have everyone call her. It would make her day.

I just spoke with Karen's Mom. She is still @ Park Place Hospital, has undergone chest X-Rays, an MRI and was being sent for a Cat-Scan Monday night. Apparently the spill she took last week banged her up pretty good, and that is probably what caused the blood clot in her leg.

No word on when she will be released, but she INSISTED that her Mom call and update everybody. So, there ya go.

For those who are interested 713 527 5743 is the direct line to her room. I'm sure she'd love to have -US- call her for a change!

From Maureen Cooper:

I’m just sending this out to a few of you who wanted an update… feel free to pass it on or post on the radio info board. Jennifer, Edel, and I went to see Karen in the hospital yesterday. She was in good spirits, it was obvious she took a pretty hard fall because she has a lot of bruising. She is having spasms in her feet/legs which they haven’t found the cause of yet, and they are still watching and testing the blood clot in her leg. She’s not able to stand yet, so they are not sure when she will be released (we found out that although she was in a wheelchair most of the time, she did have some mobility to stand and walk short distances before this, they hope to get her back to that). “Mother” was there and we talked to her for a while, she’s a super nice lady. Mother and Father are trying to make some arrangements at home and get more help to take care of her.

Karen has trouble holding the phone in the hospital room, so Mother has been calling all the radio stations every day for her to “check in.” Karen asked about everyone here (as well as their dogs/cats/and children by name) and informed us that we are all “a mess.” All in all it was a good visit. Wish we could do more to help her and her family.

Hope she recovers quickly!

She called today... at home but now in a hospital bed. So y'all prepare yourselves for the resumption of daily check-ins and an invitation for virtually every DJ in town to come visit. Says she fell from her wheelchair after she dropped the phone and tried to pick it up. You guessed it: she was trying to call a DJ at the time.
